Didn't you read the recent court ruling? Federal Judges have said Reverse engineering is now illegal under the DMCA. so if someone makes "a hack" they can be throwin in the can.
Why would Microsoft do something like this if they are so dead set against other operating systems? Why, they wish to become the new video disc media format duh. I mean a new standard is going to come out of the blue laser crap anyway Microsoft might as well try to become the coedec of it. =].
combine this story with this prior slashdot story(http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/31/ 1453223&mode=thread&tid=196&tid=137) about turning the monitor into a speaker and you have one hell of a trim kick ass system.
How can we as a society have our cake and eat it too in regards to public wireless networks? The answer is simple... Allow people to shoot spammers on site. No long would being a repo man be the most dangerous line or work. =]
On a more serious note spammers using these open wireless networks to send spam kind of negates the whole black list mail server things doesn't it.
The term that should replace System Administrator should be Idiot Manager. Seems like the majority of time your keeping one idiot or another of the system. or helping them get on. =]
The collection of information has been out of control well before post September 11th anti-terrorist legislation happened. Remember 9/11 wasn't the first time the US government used fear to ram through laws that screw with our privacy. One example is the bombing of Oklahoma City bombing in the mid 90s.
The Oklahoma City bombing, an event where a so-so president gained favor and popularity by passing feel good anti terrorist laws that served him the rest of his presidency.
Change for the sake of change in a stupid thing, if it improved the X Windows System I'm all for it.
On the other hand this infighting is hurting all the *NIXs. If the development of the GUI system is stopped because of this stupuid crap we will never see commercail quality entertinament titles relased on the *NIXs. and it wouldn't matter how nice KDE/Gnome look if you can't bring in the gamers tio the desktop market Linux people are looking to take from Microsoft.
Oh great, I read the artical and it sounded logical but now the conspiracy theorist in me is crying out "A NEW DISCOVERY IS COMING OUT AND THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT IT!". I'd let him out but then I wouldn't be able to make them nifty foil hats.
This sounds silly but I would suggest that if Slashdot users want decorating advice and ideas they should do something more productive then ask Slashdot, watch something like HGTV.
If you ask the slashdot community about ideas you'll have a basement full of neon lights and weird sci collectables, now if you're into it that's great. but if you are looking for something else it would be wiser to look elsewhere.
I'm glad to see Ati released another video card. the more ati competes the less likly NVidia will become a company likly Microsoft.

I know it is simplistic to think this way but, I'm glad we do not see that many comets on a regular basis. The less we see the less hit the earth, yes I know one day the Earth's luck will run out and my buried remains will be thrown all over space but to live in the ignorance of the moment makes me happy.
I won't get into the war argument here on slashdot, I mean I could argue either side. My comment was in regards to the fact that the United States is being destroyed from with in and few people are seeing it.
It saddens me that some US people are spending all this time and energy protesting a war that hasn't happened yet and could give a crap about things happening in their own country in regards to their freedom. And it's not just this story, it's all the freedoms that are being taken away thinks to the events of 2001.
It makes you wonder how long until some company comes up with the idea to copyright "the accidental creation of useful products and systems" and attempt to sue google and other things. =]
It's very easy to protect your website against the slashdot effect. Create a website that has no useful information on it. If you do this there is a 50/50 chance that the website will be immune to the slashdot effect. =]
Very rarly do the taxes collected by the government only get used on the specific group claimed. rather they are normally thrown into a general fund.. thus cig taxes pay more then cig realted illnesses.
But that is like saying the government should start taxing everyone now that doesn't smoke because one day all the smokers will die off and the government will need a new source of tax revenue.
I would just like to thank the state of Oregon for helping convince people to move into their state Washington and California. It takes a state with a lot of balls to promote the other guy.
One would hope that that is the truth, but I hardly think that is the case at all.

And if NVidia didn't buy 3DFx back then the geforce 3 would have been good.

Of course it's easy to crash trains but then again you can't aim a train at a building and hope that it causes more death.

yes I screwed up it and didn't give credit. I suck.
If you are willing to give up your freedom for security eventually you will have neither.

I'm not communist in my thinking though I will admit to being against Nvidia. I have been ever since they bought 3Dfx.
