Is that a rhetorical question? Can't speak for L.A., but my car suffered an attempted break-in via the windshield of all places while Sacramento cops sat in the parking lot of a La Quinta motel. I was traveling from Washington to Georgia, and got nothing more than a shrug and a "that sucks" from the police when I noticed the prised up seal on my windshield the next morning.
After extensive research on the WoW gaming community, I believe I've identified a major glitch that causes many gamers to forgo showers, lose their jobs, and leave their significant others taking desperate measures to divert their attention from the online life. The economic and reproductive ramifications are staggering. Someone really ought to do something about this bug.
I'll go ahead and start the stopwatch for how long it's going to take someone to destroy their missile complex. Funny part is, that will probably be accomplished using missiles.
It would appear that we just have a huge gap in our respective philosophies. I actually completely agree with your last thoughts; it's the reason I've always enjoyed working with information systems over people. Not that I don't like people, because in many cases I do. I always enjoy a good coffee shop debate, as well:).
I will say that serving in the military vastly broadened my views of other cultures, an effect that largely has to do with the hugely diverse range of backgrounds that men and women in uniform come from. I can appreciate philosophical differences, even if debates do get pretty heated at times.
All things considered, I wish you well. Let's look forward to a time when old debates like this cease to have any meaning, when our species has moved past such problems. One can hope.

GPS and satellite imagery tend to mitigate this type of issue. Fifty years ago it might have been cause for concern.

I wholeheartedly agree that it's hypocritical. Unfortunately, we don't have a good solution.
True statement. The system isn't perfect, and those cops need to be introduced to what it feels like to be incarcerated. Say for 10 years or so.
