Aren't you glad a told you so?
(This is a great Slashdot topic, ain't it?)

  2. NOTHING wrong with this on Kmart To Card Buyers Of Violent Games · · Score: 1

Instead of bitching, everyone should be commending K-Mart for doing this. This is a voluntary, not legal, move on K-Mart's part , and it helps parents. It also keeps that kind of control where it should be -- that is, in the hands of parents, not in the hands of some legislative body (state or federal).

If more companies adopted such voluntary measures maybe we could keep truly odious, freedom-eroding laws from coming into existence. K-Mart's solution gives parents the choice, and they can make that choice based upon the individual level of maturity that their children exhibit.

Also, despite was some have said, this sets no legal precedent -- only a good social precedent.

  3. You have a Doctorate degree and all that? on Al Gore Goes "Open Source" · · Score: 1

Actually, I would have no problem with an AL GORE operating system being developed as an open source project.

What I take exception to is Al Gore promoting his campaign and trying to build an image as a "technology" candidate by stealing buzzwords and concepts he clearly doesn't understand.

As you pointed out, he's just asking for volunteers. He should simply do so, rather than trying to inflate his image with a hot buzzword that doesn't apply.

It's not some huge scandal, it just makes him look stupid, in my opinion.

P.S.: (I never claimed to be wise in the ways of science -- but I think Einstein was. ;-)

Actually, he *does* have the right to be disrespectful, whether you agree with him or not. I happen to agree, and I think what he wrote was right on target, although I'm not sympathetic to the Democratic party. ;-)

Gore's statement about "inventing the Internet" and now this foolish attempt to leverage a current tech buzzword to boost his image as a "technology politician" just make him look like an idiot. I think it's disrespectful to the open source community and the sincerity behind the open source concept.
