  1. Most of those would probably be happy to eat meat and other animal products given a chance. A lot of this "virtuous" eating is just a way to manage poverty.

  2. Considering that Westerners and Americans in particular have very strange ideas about what constitutes a healthy look, that kind of observation doesn't really mean anything.

    Humans simply don't have the enzymes to live like cows. No amount of romanticizing an extreme lifestile will change that.

    The web in general is a threat to Microsoft, not just Google. This is why they tried to "cut off Netscape's air supply". They saw were things were going and realized that they would be marginalized. Sure, Google is big but it could have been any other combination of web companies because the web is the thing rather than the particular company.

    Even if you destroy Google you have the same underlying problem. The platform moved away from where Microsoft has control.

    No. His crass nature led to his success. Any programming on his part had very little to do with it. This is more about being at the right place at the right time due to family money and connections and a willingness to act more crass than the next guy.

    He's the kind of guy that would sell you something he doesn't have and then manage to find some 3rd party supplier to take advantage of.

    This "post factum meritocracy" is a myth that a lot of Lemmings try to push to hide the fact that they chose to eat dirt and buy it from monopolistic scum.

    ...except what we're talking about her is superficial fluff that adds no functional value to the product. It's there to be pretty and make things seem more Mac-like or Windows-like.

    A lot of this stuff was old news by the 90s. Some of us got bored with it LONG before the rest of your lot got fixated on it.

    Some of us are more enlightened than others... '-p

    ...or the problem you had was something that no one else had any experience with. Either they didn't use any of the components involved or they never had problems with them.

    Not everyone has an answer for every problem.

    I just upgraded a Win7 box recently. Actually it came with Vista but it was running Win7. Apparently the hardware was just crap because I put an ancient nvidia card into it to accomodate Steam and the thing suddenly got a lot perkier. Even non-gaming stuff that you would not expect to have improved improved.

    Makes you wonder how many WinDOS systems are limping along annoying their users who don't realize that they could expect better.

    The fact that your are using the monopoly product or the brand for morons doesn't insulate you from the finer points or the consequences of willfully ignoring them. I've got 2 Apple branded doorstops that proves the latter bit.

    Network setup? What wizards? That sort of thing just uses common defaults that have remained unchanged since the mid-90s. Anything deviating from that and you're getting into relatively obscure stuff where you need to understand what's going on just to be able to ask for it.

    The "make it a toaster" concept is nice but tends to ignore the fact that the UI isn't the hard part.

    Although there's plenty of automation in Linux and it's been there for awhile. The aforementioned common networking defaults is one of them.

    ...he's a clueless n00b, the sort that needs to be led around by the nose by a guy like Jobs. That's how he figures. He's clearly not someone likely to be ahead of the curve in terms of technology.

    Thus he's prattling on about this in 2012 and ignoring existing alternatives.

    I always thought that 128k MP3 sounded "wrong". Couldn't tell you why though. I just perceive it well enough to be annoyed enough by it to make my own better quality rips.

    I treat HFCS the same as I treat MSG: an indication of severe corner cutting that likely has a strong negative impact on the quality of the product as well as the ingredients put into the product. It's a cheap crutch used a shortcut for having a decent recipe.

    That or it's just junk food that should be consumed sparingly or not at all.

    It's not the can. It's the mindset that led to the can. That mindset is likely a corner cutting mindset. The corner they cut with the container likely applies to the product.

    Not universal but pretty pervasive.

    Yet if you actually do any of your own canning, you will end up with your stuff in glass jars. It was the original can and still serves DIY types well. No BPA required.

    The can is cooked as part of the canning process.

    This is what you get from a nation of people that don't cook and just get their food out of cans and shinny boxes. They don't understand anything about food or how it's prepared.

    They don't even have enough of a clue to recognize food when they see it (or don't).

    What they were using before might be a good start.

    Although there are some things that don't do well in metal period. There are other things that need to be removed from the can as soon as the can is opened.

    Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth HBO even aired shows that addressed this sort of thing.

    With all of the artist wannabe advertising approaches, you would think that Apple would be all over the idea of creating 3D models and rendering them on your portable touch screen Cray.

    If you aren't just a digital couch potato, you will find value in a storage device larger than 64G. This pretty much eliminates using SSD exclusively unless you see your PC as a glorified iPad.

    This group of users that are more than just consumers also includes people like grandma.

    Plenty of people get by with machines like that.

    Most people aren't that fixated on an few extra seconds here or there. They certainly aren't going to go to extra expense and trouble for it.
