One possible solution to your posed problem is use of a Medea element. Professor Bruce Hay at Caltech has done some fascinating work developing genetic elements that ensure spread of an introduced gene throughout a wild population (see http://www.its.caltech.edu/~haylab/), specifically for the purposes of using it conjunction with an anti-malarial gene.

While I agree with your sentiment to a certain extent, I would point out that VB is an excellent starting point for young programmers. Visual Basic was the first language I learned (at a fairly young age), and it wasn't terribly difficult to pick up, as its syntax is relatively forgiving and closer to natural language than some programming languages. I actually learned VB before I got into any algebra in mathematics, which then proved quite easy, the concept of variables being familiar. While it is effectively worthless for any serious computer user, I'm not certain that I would have been nearly as enthusiastic diving into C or Java at the age of 10.

Yeah, and a few people have gotten stuck with $75,000 fines from the RIAA, but that doesn't stop filesharing. Hell yes I'd risk it; my civil liberties are worth a 1/500,000 chance of being thrown in jail, and while not everyone agrees with me, enough people will to make it impossible to persecute any sizeable percentage of us.

The point is that if everyone starts using encryption (or even say 5%), you're talking about millions of people. Do you really think the government is going to lock up a couple of million people? There aren't enough jails to hold them all. You'd end up with a situation along the lines of file-sharing. Is it illegal? Yes. Can you be punished for it? Yes. But is it likely? No. So long as the number of criminals far outstrips the ability to prosecute them all, people will continue being "criminals".

It's just someone using a non-Microsoft bootloader. And if your drive is encrypted, who cares if someone tampers with the bootloader? Your just saying, "It's not a bug; it's a feature!"

The majority of illnesses you are going to catch in everyday life (e.g. influenza, the cold, etc.) are viral. Viruses (with very few exceptions) cannot survive outside of the human body (or some other organism they can infect) for any extended period of time. Unless if you plan on sneezing on your laptop and then having someone immediately lick it, you're probably not going to infect anyone via the computer. Airborne transmission is far more likely. If you really want to disinfect it, though, I'd recommend 70% alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol) on a paper towel. It kills just about everything and generally cleans well. You can also use a 50-50 mixture of alcohol and water. I usually use ethanol to clean my Thinkpad keyboard and screen.
