I'm not talking about telling people that what they do isn't cool. I'm saying people are spending too much time gaming, and it's unhealthy, and many of the gamers themselves would probably admit that.
Sure, there's merit in being really good at Diablo II, but if you're at the point when losing some non-existent item or getting 'murdered' on-line is devastating, I think it's a problem. ===================
If I understand what actually happened correctly, then these guys did not do anything illegal. I'm sorry if Diablo II is your life and you've spent hours/day to get where you were, only to have your precious things 'stolen' and your characters 'murdered'.
Maybe now you'll do something better with your time. ===================
If so, I'm not a normal Slashdot reader, and didn't quite realize it.
This is my biggest complaint about Jon Katz and his "Hellmouth" series, and that "normal Slashdot reader" thing. It seems like we as a Slashdot community are forming/have formed a stereotype of what a "geek" is or should be.
I was not a loner in high school. I had lots of friends, was very active, and yes, I was also happy. I was also a math/computer whiz who got very good grades. I didn't find/. until after high school, but I did spend plenty of time coding, and do consider myself a geek.
So let's not narrow down what we think a geek is, but rather appreciate how diverse we are.
Not a bad idea (if you recall, Hitler ran a similar campaign)
This kind of thing happens everywhere, from the My First Sony line to various name-brand based fashion Barbie dolls, and it's hardly fascism.
If, contrary to Microsofts youth marketing methods, young people are introduced to interoperability and standards compliance in programming, it can yield a much more positive result. ===================
"There are a very large number of reasons why this is legal"
Of course it's legal, as all lawsuits are. We just hate the idea of them actually winning it.
"*Apple asked the sites to remove and they refused. This is not a case of the person not knowing what they were doing was wrong."
Is NOT doing whatever Apple tells you wrong? I for one don't see this as a black and white issue.
So photos got leaked from somewhere 1 day before they were officially released. The ones displaying the photos are not at fault. Only those who took the photos without asking (as was posted earlier.
Point taken, but there are other ways of protesting besides boycotting.
We love DVD's because of their great quality, and don't want to see them go anywhere. So, we write the MPAA and tell them how f*cked up they are, we write our government and tell them how f*cked up the MPAA is, and we use DeCSS to our hearts content, meanwhile laughing at their attempt to control this great new medium.
But let's not give up on the technology altogether, because the MPAA will be there with whatever technology comes along next.

...that this move my AOL won't be followed by the closeout of gaim's access to their servers.
I can't bring myself to trust ANYTHING AOL/Tim Warner does...
Then buy a cheaper model and spend your money on a high-res cam.
But if you've got the money to burn (which I don't), it'd be a decent toy.
The earth has been heating and cooling down naturally for millions of years. How do you think the ice ages happened?
Yes and if we do nothing the earth will "naturally" become inhospitable to human life!

Guys, it's coming more gradually than we all expected, but this article to me isn't about putting Linux on a watch.
:0)
It's about how EVERYONE is getting enthused about linux and open source.
We are watching the public and the best computing firms switch to/embrace Linux.
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty excited about Tux growing up!
Who wants to buy a 640x480 Digital Camera these days? I think the Barbie Digital Cameras I've seen can do that.
I agree that the less-informed customers are looking for higher numbers, but the solution isn't to get IBM and Motorola to make faster procs.
The solution is to change the benchmarking standards, because we know a Mac 500 MHz is comparable to a PIII 800MHz, give or take.

No one has a "claim" to the name Corinthians. There should have been no case in the beginning, since the guy had a legitimate purpose for the name.
I really hope this gets appealed.
Are we watching the demise of the free internet?
What are WE going to do about it?!?!
