    I can't afford $30K a year in gas tax or a Tesla. Most people can't. It's not more cost-effective because some pencil pusher raised my taxes. It's a net loss for everyone but Tesla, and Washington DC. Buy a Tesla or we'll tax you into bankruptcy? You think that's a winning idea?

    Why would things like taxing gasoline or electricity be effective? I don't drive because I want to, I drive because I have to, same with heating my house. Additional taxes on things like gasoline and electricity just hurt me without providing any tangible benefit.

    Yeah, and if you actually read the poll, you will see when specific items are listed (tax elecricity, gasoline, tax breaks for nuclear power) they oppose them 2 to 1. Another misleading Slashdot headline.

    In the US we gave the telcos massive tax funded grants in exchange for rural broadband development. They took the money and ran. It's time to stop giving corporations access to tax money.

    A small thing? A lightning rod costs 50$ tops. Requires almost no maintenance, and is not subsidized or mandated. Can you say any of those thing about green technologies?

    I'd never click on one, or look at it directly anyway. So they're ineffective on me, they just make my pages load slower. I pay for my internet connection, I'm not going to pay to view ads. So, screw off.

    I have found progressives more likely to shut down guest speakers at colleges, force firings of people who happen to say the wrong thing, and shun friends when they realize they aren't progressives as well.
