This has not been going on in hollywood for a long time. This is the same as your tv (or dvd/blu-ray movies on your internet connected player) showing characters drinking pepsi and your neighbors tv showing characters drinking coke because of your programming preferences
Employees are very happy with XP and cringe at change. So many complaints about the ribbon etc. when upgrading to Office 2007.
Businesses will change to appease the management, not the employees.
I'm with you on Powerpoint. I used Micrografx Charisma 4.0 back in the mid 90s and it was better than Powerpoint is today.
I wish I could find that to use today.
Why does somebody not make server side ads? Putting ads on the clientside with JS makes them easy to block and the webmaster has no control.
On the server side I can request an ad, if ad takes more than 0.25 seconds, just display the damn page without ads for now.
Then this is a problem with Firefox, not IE, that it let's plugins be installed without user intervention. At the least it should warn upon next start that
"Blah has been installed, do you want to enable it?"
Another option for a techie user
"select sha1(realanswer)"
I always have sqlyog running connected to a bunch of database servers and I can always do that.
Only problem is when I'm not at a computer:) I guess I can do that on my phone but haven't tried.
Sometimes I really want to put a notice for IE users saying - "You are using an inferior and less secure browser. Please use Opera/Firefox/Safari etc. for a better browsing experience".
The last time I tried to download Quicktime, Apple forced me to get Itunes along with it (this was a while ago). It took a while to find a version of Quicktime that did not have itunes. Then I found the very convenient Quicktime Alternative. Guess who is never installing Quicktime again. No more reminders to upgrade to Pro, no harrasment remving things from startup etc. I hate all bloody software that tries to put a worthless icon in the notification area. Worst offender is the installsheild update manager that got installed with paint shop pro.
I say GH should have patches for all versions that replace the Gibsons with some other guitars and use that manufacturer to help them fight the patent too. I'm sure the free publicity will be good for the other manufacturer.
You forget Gates, Brin, Page, Elison etc. There are probably as many or more software billionaires than celebrity billionaires. I don't think there are any sports billionaires?
Just as a data point, I had the exact opposite experience, Display was 640*480 in windows, internet wasn't working (neither wired nor wireless) in a fresh WinXp SP2 install due to lack of drivers on the CD while everything worked out of the box in Ubuntu. Also after getting the internet to work in Windows, none of the other drivers could be found on Windows update, while the Ubuntu repositories have everything I needed.
Actually most of the malware that people got around me at work was from Adobe Flash and PDF exploits not from Microsoft stuff.
You forget the other 11 million smartphone users also paying that much

Has firefox fixed the bug where nobody can install extensions that are enabled by default without user intervention?

Set your refresh rate high on the CRT to reduce the eyestrain.
Interesting..

So we can narrow down our results and search within results when we can't go beyond a thousand items.
