carriers take about half of premium sms cost (imagine visa charging 50% on each transaction) and at the same time they are protecting themselves against competition by reducing amount of premium sms they process?? reminds me of a dinosaur munching on his left foot who doesn't feel the pain yet as it takes time to travel in his long and stupid body.

  3. ajax vs flex on The Future of AJAX and the Rich Web · · Score: 1

ajax seems like a doomed technology. well, there are few good ajax application out there (gmail etc), but as a mainstream it is doomed. it falls somewhere between html and adobe flex (and possibly silverlight). it departs from pure html world but never arrives to what flex is capable of. ajax loses the simplicity of html, becomes slow and awkward and tied up by by legacy standards. why would one use it then? only monsters like google who can trow tons of money into building and using their own obscure development kits (i remember looking into google web toolkit, first thing that crossed my mind "what the fuck is that??! why all this hustle??"). i ran into client once who had invested into an ajax financial application. this application was a total disaster and perfect example of how developers high on technology drive project into the ground. site was slow, ugly and unusable. so we ended up rewriting it in flex at a fraction of original cost.
