  1. Re:How do you anticipate weak points on Teacher Asks Students To Plan a Terrorist Attack · · Score: 1

For several years I did threat analysis in US Air Force Bases. My reports were usually poopooed as no imminent threat. I thought my job was to identify perceived threat. Of course there was no consideration that an international border is only a few hours drive or that its half a day flying half way around the world. I finally gave up since my surperiors appeared not to be interested. Maybe they would not tell me if I found a nugget. Maybe there was no money to fix the problem. Maybe they did not want to be embarassed. Since then I thought I was doing a public service by pointing out choke points and hazards around my city with letters/e-mails to the mayor which he did not acknowledge.

  3. Re:Time Cube? on The Possibility of Paradox-Free Time Travel · · Score: 1

About fifty years ago in a high school physics class someone probably trying to delay any actual learning brought up the question: is time travel possible. This was probably prompted by a movie or adventure story about of time travel. Our instructor, being a good instructor, did not say yes or no. He drew a grid on the board and called it moment matrix 1. The class was tasked with filling in the matrix with examples of what existed at this instant. Suggestions ranged from speeding vehicles to respiration to cellular grow to thermonuclear reactions and the motion of the stars. Then he drew another grid labeled moment matrix 2 with changes in each item listed matrix 1. He said that in order to time travel a third planning matrix would have to copy one of the previous matrices. He asked if this would be possible. The resulting discussion determined time travel would never be possible. Radioactive decay would destroy some molecules. Respiration, growth, death, flaking of dandruff, windblown sand, stellar motion and radiation, and numerous other examples would all have to be returned to their position on the target matrix. Someone brought up that the position of the Earth, considering rotation, precession, and other celestial motion could not be reversed. This was pretty deep thinking for a bunch of high school juniors. Although it might be mathematically possible to travel through time it does not seen mechanically possible.

There have been skyhook ballons since the mid 70's. One is in the Florida keys and at least one other is in west Texas. They have got loose a few times when the cable tether got fouled and broke. They were not visible from the ground but their radar signal was detectable for miles.

About a year ago I was discussing trouble sleeping with my ophtomologist. He mentioned that many people sleep with their eylids open a crack. This allows light and shadows and the pilot light of the vcr and other light sources to cause dreams, hallucinations, nightmares, claims of out-of-body experiences. He suggested a sleep mask. It has allowed better sleep and deams that are all mine.

Everyone thinks all kids should go to college and they will be set for life. Not necessiarily so. Who will be the electricians and beautitions. Also you need to watch for the advisors who get you into a dead end curriculum where the jobs dry up before you graduate like designing buggy whips. As for teachers I had prof that said everyone should get a teachers certificate incase there were not other jobs available. This makes for generally unhappy people and sorry teachers.
