This isn't just a chemistry problem though. All my kids are learning are how to pass a test. Not how to learn. They have no problem solving skills, unless I teach them. They aren't even taught real long division anymore. While I don't find long division in and of itself a useful discipline, the problem solving that is learned in learning long division is very important (at least IMO) for the rest of math.

It's like geometry. Proofs were stupid in high school, but when I took abstract algebra, I wished I had learned more. While I understand every student will not need to learn abstract algebra or even how to do partial fractional derivatives, the problem solving aspect is the most important.

There is also a big difference between the US banning it, and a Muslim nation banning it. In the US, if you get caught, you might be arrested, have a court trial, probably pay a fine, maybe some jail time (but probably not for anything other than kiddie porn).

In a Muslim country, they will just come, you will be arrested, definitely spend time in prison, and possibly even killed.

The US has some stupid laws and some stupid bans, but for most of them you don't really have to fear that you will get in serious trouble for it.

I didn't pay income tax for the last 10 years. I know I'm a lazy no good son of a bitch. My wife was a full-time nursing student, and I was a part-time comp sci student while holding down a full-time job and we had 4 kids. Had plenty of money to spend, didn't qualify for food stamps or govt aid, had our own health insurance, but we did qualify for earned income credit (which is a form of welfare). Just about everyone I worked with fell into the same category. We all averaged about $45k a year doing manual labor.

I don't have exact numbers, but I wonder how many people who pay no income tax fall into this category. I would argue about half of them. They make enough money to live "well" (all depends on you're definition of "well"), but since they don't make some magic number in income they get all their "tax" money back at the end of the year plus some.

So I can get plenty of exercise if I wanted to.
