It's probably a little more complicated than that. Even if the British did storm the Embassy, what could Ecuador really do about it? Declare war, doubtful. Even if they did, what hope would they have of winning against the might of the British and the US? Really all the British are doing is humoring the Ecuadorians. I could be wrong, though.
While I don't disagree with that statement, you'd think by now that all the security holes would be fixed on XP. I mean they've had what 11 years to get it right.
We elect new Congress members every 2 years. Not all new, and sometimes the same idiots get elected over and over again.
When was the last time you contacted your Congress members about these issues?
That's the real problem. USian's pretend they are too busy to keep in contact with their reps. (And yes, I write to my congress people at least once a week on issues that are important to me, Gun Control, Sequestration, PRISM...)
Sometimes de-normalizing is better than normalization. It all depends on what you're requirements are. If you love normalization, then go work fro DMSI. They take normalization to the highest level.
My idea wasn't to discourage people from having a lot of patents, but that if you have a bunch of patents and make a lot of money from them, you can afford to pay more. Oh wait, when you read that way, it's very socialistic. Back to the drawing board.
A sliding scale patent fee might be useful. If you own a lot a patents or make a lot of money off of the patents you own, you pay more. If you don't already own a patent, then maybe no fee? Or maybe a percentage fee for whatever you make off the patent? A big question in my mind is is the USPTO solvent? Does it require tax payer funds or is it funded completely by the fees? I'm sure I could google it, but I really should get some work done today.
Which is why I would actually argue with doing away with income taxes all together and implement a national sales tax. But we shouldn't let Congress decide on this, we need a Constitutional Amendment that would cap the amount the sales tax could be based GDP. Certain items would always be tax exempt. Food, Gas, Utilities. Add in the fact that Congress has to pass a budget that can be no greater than the percentage of GDP that the sales tax is. I'm sure the proposal is missing a few items, but in theory, it's a good one.
According to my quick research, yes the top 7% own about 63% of the wealth, but that also means that 93% own 37% of the wealth. These numbers are discouraging, but it dosn't mean that 63% of the wealth should pay almost 90% of the taxes.
I actually did look up a little bit on it. Warren Buffet was the first name that came to mind. He paid over 7 million dollars in taxes, and if you include his 23% share in Berkshire Hathaway he paid over $1billion in taxes.
I know $7 mil is a lot more than I paid in last year, and he paid in an effect rate of 17%, which is again higher than my rate, and my wife and I are of those top 15%.
This is the attitude that allows corporations to keep buying politicians. Corps have tons of money, that's right, but they can't vote. If enough people in the US (or any country for that matter that allows free elections), would actually get off their lazy asses, and hold politicians accountable, corporate money wouldn't mean shit to them. A politician can only take money when he's holding office. If he gets voted out by the people, then the corporation has to go about buying new politicians.
It's not that hard to write your congress people a weekly letter and let them know how you feel. If just 50% of the people would do this, politicians would start acting right. Hell, it would probably only take a vocal minority to make it happen. If 10% of the people are pissed off enough to write, then I can imagine the aides will tell him that its more like 50% of the people.
I challenge you to try it, if you don't believe me. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly apologize.
Almost all of Linear Algebra can be learned in a day, if you're willing to apply yourself. At least that's how my Linear Algebra was, but then again, the Prof said it was pretty dumbed down. So go figure what I know.
If you don't like it, start writing and calling all politicians. Have your friends and family do it, also. Have their friends and family do it. If enough people did it, it would be passed in two weeks. Screw corporate America, its time to take back Govt for the People by the People.
Why wasn't there national coverage of the march on Washington about GMO foods? Because most USians don't give a shit as long as the food tastes good, and there is plenty of it.
Which reminds me of a Dr. Katz episode where I think he was seeing Denis Leary, and they had a potato famine skit. It was pretty damn funny. They were talking about how they didn't like corn and all starved.
We moved most of our staff from 19" monitors to 10" iPads. Not saying it was a great move, but we did it anyways. (Of course most of our staff is outside sales reps, and carrying an iPad is a lot easier than carrying a laptop or desktop.)
Well put. That was the gist of my argument, only well thought out and written.

Maybe the can security through obscurity?

In Soviet Russia, YOU watch the NSA?
This is the big thing. Whatever features are added, just make they damn well work. Almost two years to fix the damn podcast app is two years too many.

Now that makes even more sense than my original un-thought out plan.
Only 200k? My offer was much higher.

Legal Defense for the IRS. And Prosecution of the IRS, and apparently line dancing videos for the IRS, and conferences for the IRS.
I think this begs the question who the hell was supposed to be watching the watchers?

The country where the top 10% pay 90% of all income taxes, and 50% of the people pay no income tax at all? Yeah, that seems real fucking unfair to me.
Damn rich people paying less percentage of taxes than me. Even if the total amount they pay is greater than I fucking make all year.

I for one welcome our new wheat overlords.

You never read the Song of Fire And Ice then by G.R.R Martin. That's the whole point of the series IMO.
I for one welcome our human-cockroach hybrid overlords.
For crying out loud, we have people marching against GMO foods, I can only imagine the outrage if we did that on people.
