If it were myself, I would begin with a rectangular room large enough to contain both an office and a datacenter. Then, I would use a wall to partition the two. In this partition, add a window so that you (and others) will be able to view the datacenter while in the office. Of course, the partition will cut down on the noise factor so that you can use your office for phone calls, concentration, etc.
In the office area, I would set up an L-shaped desk that is flush with the wall. One side of my desk would contain a dual monitor setup and a nice desktop, and the other side would be reserved for hardware repair needs, diagrams, and such.
