Some people have said that the kid playing basket ball is Quicksilver. No way.
Is he Canonball ? Could be , but probably not, the Canonball does not wear glasses in the comics, and he flies like a rocket, not zips by at super speed like Quicksilver or Flash.
I think he was just a made up filler mutant. (and I loved the "Hey, no powers" line:)
>> was kinda sad that Mystique was essentially reduced to a covert-ops sort of character instead of a bad-ass.
> Being Covert-Ops and Being A Bad Ass aren't nessisarily mutually exclusive you know. Ever hear of Solid Snake?
Not only that, but Mystique HAS BEEN PROTRAYED in the comic books as being "cover-ops" type of character. She's a mutant terrorist, and has infiltrated SHIELD and other government type organizations before. You don't get more cover-ops than that.
I loved a lot (if not all) of that story line, but that would be the most complicated thing in the universe to bring to the big screen, specially for non-fans !!!
C'mon, do you really think that people will understand Legion going back in time to kill magneto, and then killing his father and creating an alternate timeline where Bishop (another time aberration) is the only one who remembers the original timeline ?
> Oh yeah. Third movie: time travel! Cable ! Stryfe ! Phoenix/Askani ! Bishop !
No way ! Time travel, and space exploration should be avoided at all cost !!! They would just be too confusing for the general audience.
I think the second one will be about Sentinels, and the third one : Apocalypse, with one of the team members being a horseman (could be somebody else besides Angel).
But no, please, no time travel, that's one of the things that makes the X-Universe so complicated !!!
I played the demo of this game, and I *think* I remember scenes where the "bad guys" executed the hostages you're supposed to rescue, by shooting them point blank on the back of the head. Is that in the actual game ?
I'm thinking maybe the servers can be bundled with the games (this is already true with HL, but not EverQuest), and at worst, really good bots could be used to play games nobody uses anymore ?
It just seems that these types of games will just be much more difficult to preserve, since they depend on the servers and users in the network.
Hey ! Bad dudes was cool when I played it as a kid;)
I'd probably wouldn't buy a cabinet from a "classic" game, but one of the more generic ones. (you know, like the plain white ones that are used for any game).
The fun part would be decorating it, with pictures of "classic" games.
I've only tried Donkey Kong, and it's pretty good. The sound is a bit off, but that's probably just limitations on the old.au file sound mechanism (Java 1.0.X). Newer VMs should fix this.
What will be the abandoned and obsolete games of tomorrow ?
Today's networked games.
I've been wondering, what will happen to the Half-Life (TFC, cstrike), Quake 3, EverQuest games in the future ? These games are very popular today, but maybe in a couple of years they will not be supported and you won't be able to play them ? Specially EverQuest, when they shut down their servers, how would you play it ?
Are these the next type of games to be resurrected by a future MAME like engine ?
Too true. The hardware is very important. You gave one of the best examples, that Gauntlet I/II arcade cabinet with 4 controllers is just too cool.
I've been meaning to build a cabinet myself. How do you feel about such efforts ? Obviously, not the same, but a good compromise ? It just (at least for me) really sucks to play these fine games sitting down in front of my desktop computer:(
What the heck is going on ? He's making some very valid points, why is his post marked as troll ?
Anyways, it really annoys me that they don't have nor ever plan to support foreign keys last time I read their documentation. The "why NOT use foreign keys" is rubs off as just an excuse to not implement them, not a valid technical argument. Specially, when there are high performance databases that have that feature and seem to work very well.
> Because homogenous states (Utah, etc) don't need to spend as much money on english as a second language programs, trouble youth programs, etc.
Spending money on "english as a second language" and the like, is most definetly not the problem with the public education system in the U.S. of A. I've seen this mentioned many times, but it's not true.
Our "english as a second language program" consisted of 2 full time teachers. If you fired them and distributed their salaries evenly among all other teachers, you'd probably had increased everybody's salary to $5.00 dollars per month. You think that type of money is really going to make the difference and attract good talent ??????
What's next, eliminate other "non-essintial" stuff, like phys ed ?
Hey moron, I never said I didn't understand that "#" is a musical symbol, just that for a lot of C programmers (in the US), # is usually pronounced "POUND" in a "C PROGRAMMING CONTEXT" (ex: "pound define" for #define)
Since this is sort of a "C" derivative language, I found it interesting. Are your neurons firing and making some sense now ???
Even if you can read the file, your program must be able to understand what it's reading and act upon it !!!
It doesn't do me any good to read your schema, if I don't know that "FOO" means.
I'm sorry, but it is overhyped. I use it, to configure servlets, but by God, it just made my configuration files about 10x bigger and more difficult to edit !!!
I said it in another reply, but I can't possibly know what "#" is called in all other english language countries. Maybe my post is US specific, I don't know.
In my native language(Spanish), I don't call it "pound" either. But most (if not all) people I've dealt with in a programming (C/C++) context (even conferences) pronounce it that way.
It seems this little symbol is quite controvertial !!!
It's a set up! I've been conned! I don't know how else to refer to people from the US, other than American.
Well I had to get you with something:) In Spanish, we call them "Estado Unidenses". Sounds like it's high time to make space for a new word in the English language. That or use the word "gringo".
When I came to work in the US, I had no idea what people were talking about: "pound define", what the bloody 'ell is that?
Well, maybe my post is too US (not American) centric. I'm from Panama, so I have no "bloody" (love that word) idea how they call "#" (in a programming context) in other English speaking countries.
So, for many (not most or us) US "C/C++" programmers, "C#" may seem like "C pound". Did I get my statement right now ?:)

You've got to be kidding right ?
... try writting that script buddy.

I've seen this game in MAME !!!
... :)
I never actually played the "real" game in the arcades, but I thought it was reallyweird for such an old game.
Not that I downloaded the ROM file now, that'd be illegal
I played the demo of this game, and I *think* I remember scenes where the "bad guys" executed the hostages you're supposed to rescue, by shooting them point blank on the back of the head. Is that in the actual game ?
It is extremely violent.
If you "use" (append) one minute of the "real" song, you just violated the song's copyright !!! BLAM !!!
I'm thinking maybe the servers can be bundled with the games (this is already true with HL, but not EverQuest), and at worst, really good bots could be used to play games nobody uses anymore ?

Not MAME, but an emulator written in Java ...
.au file sound mechanism (Java 1.0.X). Newer VMs should fix this.

I've only tried Donkey Kong, and it's pretty good. The sound is a bit off, but that's probably just limitations on the old
WOW ! Now that could save me a lot of time ! Great link.
:-(
But $2,000 ??? This is going to be a hard sell for my wife

I'd say this chap is more of an anarchist than a libertarian.
Hello ?!?!?! That's not a racist remark at all ! Where did you get that idea ?
If somebody says "brown", am I supposed to get offended because I'm Hispanic ???

Fin means "end" in Spanish.
Is this name prophetic ?
I guess McDonald's is pretty popular and you're in the minority there, therefore it won't close near you any time soon.
If you're really are against McDonald's, form an organization and educate people why they shouldn't eat there. Same with Amazon, or whatever.
What are we supposed to do , just close anything you don't like ???
I have yet to see a programmer say "octothorpe define" for "pound define".
Does anybody in slashdot remember C ???

It's definetly not silent as you can see by the number of replies. We just can't agree what to call the symbol.
If it was silent, maybe we wouldn't have this debate. Good idea !
