Actually we live in the florida panhandle, have a townhouse that we have a fixed rate mortgage on and yes we do deduct the interest. And the payments are actually pretty reasonable.
After deductions and such, we got all but 1800 back in our Federal taxes, not to mention we don't pay any state income taxes in Florida. I don't count FICA, because everyone pays pretty much the same percentage of these who earns wages.
Don't blame that problem on Windows, blame it on the idiotic management of whatever IT company managed those systems. Hell, when you said that one of the systems was also the server, I stopped right there and asked myself why you were bashing the systems and not the admin.
the problem with rewarding all work equally is that you get a lot of the same problems that Soviet Russia had, such as people who only did a good enough job to not get fired. What you are referring to will reward laziness more than hard work.
Sadly this very thing is screwing my sister-in-law at the moment. Her boyfriend works as a bartender. They are breaking up but have a daughter together. He's going to have to pay her child support, but since he doesn't claim all of his income (he claims about 20k but makes about 60k after tips) she will get crap for child support payments.
Did I mention those countries all have lower youth delinquency rates than the US too?
Yeah and most "sensible" countries also have a 50-60% tax rate. We manage to pay for our shit without leeching every red cent we can from every wage earner. Hell, about 50% of the wage earners in the US don't even pay taxes, so I don't know what the fuck they are getting bent over about. Me and my wife make over 100k and we only pay about 1800 in taxes a year. That's 1.8% for those of you who don't know math from your own ass. Granted, that doesn't count sales tax, but I don't really care about that anyways as it's mostly for state waste instead of federal waste.
I guess he lost most of his credibility. Or do you still think that it was an inside job? I bet Elvis and JFK conspired to take down the twin towers, and they got logistical support from the aliens housed at Area 51. Oh yeah, and Jimmy Hoffa was there too for moral support.
This isn't Sim City where you can just 'declare something an industrial zone' and call it good.
You must have sucked at Sim City if you didn't place reasonable levels of Commercial and Residential zones not too far away from Industrial zones. And Hospitals, Police, etc.
New York and LA are bastardizations of civilization when it comes to cost of living. The living cost in those cities is fucking ridiculous. You wanna know what me and my wife pay for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath townhouse? About $950 a month after taxes. That's a mortgage, not a rent payment. The same type of place in LA would probably cost $3000 a month, easy. I hate to tell you this, but living costs in New York or LA are not indicative of most of the rest of the country.
The reason we rebuilt, as has been rehashed a number of times, is that it is one of the most important ports in our nation. On top of this, we have a considerable number of oil platforms off the coast of LA and TX, and about 5% or so of our natural gas is transported through lower Louisiana. Where are the people who work in these areas supposed to live, 100 miles away?
Yeah because we all know that Insurance companies have our best interest at heart. I know people here in Florida who do not live in flood zones who now have to pay in excess of $10k per year on insurance for their house because of companies like Allstate jacking people over. The Governor of Florida actually had to step in at one point and freeze insurance rates because people were being taken advantage on a large scale. I may not completely trust the Federal Government to manage disaster relief in the most efficient manner, but I trust them a hell of a lot more than private companies who are trying to pay as little insurance claims as possible.
Actually it has been reported that they (McCain and Palin) are going to MEMA (Mississippi Emergency Management Agency) but will not go to LA, for primarily the problem you suggest. McCain is smart enough to know that if they go there it'll be a circus and will just be a distraction for the relief effort. And Bush probably won't go directly to LA either for the same reason.
Don't even get me fucking started on Atari. Had to fight with Atari over my Dig. Download of The Witcher, because when I reinstalled The Witcher (uninstalled it months ago) and went online to "register" it, it told me I had exceeded the allowed limit of registrations and I could not play the game. Took a week of fighting with Atari to get this fixed.
Show me a commercial PC Game that is superior to any made by Stardock when it comes to the matter of DRM and CD-Checking. You will find that license with all PC Games pretty much with rare exceptions (mostly indie games that are usually junk anyways). The simple fact of the matter is that PC Gaming is a different beast from Console gaming. We haven't been able to trade in PC games at places like Gamestop for years, and all game devs discourage reselling of games, because they are in the business of making money off of the game they produce and you reselling the game cuts into their profit margin. But the fact that Stardock allows play without being able to update means that you can lend the game easily to your buddy, who can check it out and decide if he likes the game. If he does, he can take himself to the store or go online to stardock's website and buy it himself. I challenge you to show me a commercial (and relatively popular/good) game that rivals this from a developer other than Stardock.
Which they better hope is not caught onto by the SEC, insider trading is a serious crime. When I worked for a major ISP, we were specifically barred from buying or selling stock shares within about a 3 day window before or after a major transaction or announcement.
Even as a registered Republican, I think the world (mostly) of Lieberman (the only thing I dislike about him is his stance on censoring games, but then again most senators and representatives are for this) but think that his choice would've sealed the deal for Obama. Many of McCain's own constituents don't want to see a Pro-Choice ticket, and with Lieberman on the ticket they would be more likely to just stay at home on Nov. 4. It was a very smart strategic play by McCain to pick Palin for several reasons. She's not establishment, which is a stigma that I'm surprised the Obama camp hasn't tried to label McCain with more. She's a mother of 5, including a special needs child, so if Biden hammers her too hard in the VP debates it could appear to some that he's picking on a woman and therefore create an image of someone who's cold and hard. This is definitely not the image I'd want to paint if I was a Democratic candidate, since they are supposed to be the party of the common man (bullcrap IMO, I actually think the party system should be abolished, but that's just my view). She also gives McCain someone who is strong on reform issues and is a whistle blower, something that you can hardly say about Romney or Pawlenty. Personally I think it was a good choice, as all anyone was talking about yesterday was her, not Obama's speech. Stole some of his thunder. Whether it works for McCain in the end has yet to be seen, but it will be certainly interesting to watch the Biden Palin debate, whereas I think I would have just watched something else rather than Biden v. Romney or Biden v. Pawlenty. They both would've been boring choices indeed. Whatever happens, it's going to be a fairly close election, although not as close as 2000.

No, you don't get it. Now get back to class, your third grade teacher would be pissed if she knew you were on slashdot during recess.

You haven't played Sins of a Solar Empire then. Very little signs of bugs even in version 1.0.
Because congress won't repeal the law barring any further coastal drilling not already in progress

Considering McCain will be in MS and then Missouri, whereas Bush will be in Austin TX and San Antonio TX, I doubt it.
You are correct. All I heard was sucked, Sim City, and good, and I was up in arms. That game sucked for all of the hours of my life it stole.

Racists are racists. There are republican and democrat racists. Let's not discriminate on which racists we choose to hate. Plenty to go around.

Your mom is a lawyer. Ooooh, burn! Sorry, couldn't resist.
I'd mod you Informative if I hadn't just used my last mod point on a game story. Bah, my addiction to games strikes once again. Damn you, Playstation!

Well perhaps we can finally start watching the news again.
