I love Debian and apt don't get me wrong, but what I thought was silly is how dpkg and apt require perl. I like perl too and all but recent perl troubles with the packages in unstable have been a mess and if I wasnt more carefull dist-upgrade would have removed perl and that would have left me with a busted system. What exactly is perl used for, the install scripts on the packages? If its possible it would be nice to get rid of the perl dependancy alltogether and make apt and dpkg statically linked binaries because they can be broken and leave you high a dry.
I actually created a usbdevfs driver and client for the nomad ii mg about a month ago.. its not exactly fully complete (the only thing that doesn't work is the memory card. the internal memory works but i dont have any smart media cards so it would be pretty hard to reverse engineer. hehe.)
Anyways it was really not hard. It took me a few days of usb snoopy to figure out the protocol. I never really got around to posting anything about it but this story reminded me and I just did up a little webpage now. http://nomad.ipflux.org
Heheh I am just joking, but I really do like Gore because I agree with him on the issues. Especially since GWB is anti-gay on all the issues (since I'm gay its a big deal to me.) And ive always been a democrat anyway so:)
I can't beleive that this was honestly unavoidable. First of all, nobody needs a heat sink that needs extra case support, and if your cpu does need it that means your cpu must be REALLY badly designed if its that hot. And as to the power supply, this is the same thing. If they need so much extra power they must be doing something wrong. The mobo can supply alot of power. I cant beleive that there is no way to design a power source that works like the old ones, through the pins.
So what I want to know is who is the marketing guy who came up with this excuse to make people buy all new cases! The AT->ATX was a little different in that we had alot of new changes like the bios power control and stuff like that. But I cant accept that this is anything more a ploy to line the rich peoples pockets.
Yea Im aware that the planets have been found by indirect methods such as their wobble on their stars. But this wong tell you anything much about them besides maby their size and positions. If we could "see" them we might be able to determine their chemical composition.
With all these new telescopes were coming out with how come we cant use these to see pictures of like europa or pluto or something. I know they can, but the pictures are really bad / small / pixelated from what ive seen. I guess we have no chance of ever spotting another planet around another star if we cant even barely see our own! . So what im wondering is how much more will these telescopes have to be in order to get reasonably good resolution on our own planets.
(and yes I realize that non stars are alot harder to see because the only light they give off is reflected.. but still.)
The star trek planet Vulcan is supposedly supposed to be in the Epsilon Eridani system, and this corresponds almost perfectly with everything trek says about Vulcun (except that its a Jupiter sized planet, but thats all we can detect so who knows.), and its only 10.5 lightyears away. What are the chances of life ! (hehe. admittedly slim. but still. it would be so cool)
These things arent real AI, (well, not sure about the chess machine,) but for the quake bots, there is nothing intelligent about it. They are programmed to respond to the input that is given to them. Just because it may be complex doesnt mean its AI. Im not too sure about this project either though. There doesnt seem to be any real opensource AI stuff going on besides this though, none that I have heard of at least. Could be cool if it get support..
I was thinking.. if you could find the dir with the keys and just get a list of it. (for example, sshd is in/etc which is usually gloabally listable), you could look at the files date and then go thru the sshd source code to find where it generates the key. It probably uses the time/date to seed the random number generator, you could repeat this process with that timestamp you found on the file and have it spit back the key!

Still kicks RPM's ass though
