It's a good point, really. With a belt you could go to town and leave nothing more than bruises and welts. A wrench, though, will break bone. He'd have to hold back, and that wouldn't be at all satisfying enough. Keeping the kid out of hospital is priority one with abuse.

This is why we have NoScript and AdBlock. We made a technological measure (Block popups in browser) to prevent unwanted behaviour (popup advertising), and they deliberately circumvented that measure. They could have learned the lesson and gone with "Yup, popups are annoying. We won't do that now. How about letting us just go with static image banners and unobtrusive text ads?" from the beginning, but they instead made plugins load popups. Instead of agreeing pissing in the garden isn't acceptable and using the toilet like a regular person, they pissed in our cereal. So now we don't even invite them into the house, and have electrified all of the fences. They only have themselves to blame.

I have a Desire HD with Jelly Bean (Thanks to the folks at XDA Developers). Aside from the significantly higher quality screen, I don't see any improvement worth the payout. It's still Android 4.2, it's still got GPS, Wifi, removable storage, is a little thinner but not noticeable in a pocket, and is no better watch films or browse the internet on a train journey, IMO. Screens that small with pixel count that high will all look the same... It's just a bigger number. MHz wars all over again.

Back of the napkin math here; Breaking distance from 30MPH (14m/s) is 23m including a thinking distance of 9m in ideal conditions. Therefore, you require 23m to stop your car from 30mph, but are only given 12.6m to do it in (14m[distance travelled in 1s] * 0.9[length of amber phase]) and 3/4 of that is going "Yellow light...
