    I disagree. Yes, any 1st world army will slaughter a popular uprising, but then there'd be nobody to vote, buy things, pay taxes, clean streets, hell join the army.

    It will be the poison pill that must be swallowed in order to keep the country running.

    That's not what poison spill legislation is. Poison pill is when something totally outrageous is put on a bill someone doesn't like in order to kill it, like "... and income tax is 70% for those who earn under $100,000 per year." or "... and all paedophiles in prison get a pardon and state sponsored housing for the next 20 years."

    Mass transit is great until they go on strike.

    I took the bus for a long time. It was always a miserable experience (crowded busses, never on time, routes that made no sense, etc..), and this strike was the final straw. Went out an bought a gas guzzling car.. and will probably never use the bus system again.

    (Just felt like venting that...)

    Well no, I don't think this is how the world works. However, two things;
    1) "I can't help but think..." = Opinion. I'm not putting words in anyone's mouth.
    2) I don't think many of the donors expected anything (That would be why it's a donation, not a purchase). However, those who donated on the provision of getting one of the first run of the product (which there should be at least one, otherwise why state that donors might have to wait?) are being pushed down the queue in favour of those the company can make a profit from. I don't think that is fair. It may be necessary, though. I don't have to like it.

    I can't see through solid bodywork to know how close I've got to that wall/post/child behind my car.

    If I see a child approaching my planned route, with parents or not, I stop and take my car out of reverse. Children are stupid, and I must presume their parents are too without further information. I wait until they've passed before moving on.

    Yeah, this post is kind of a karma whore. Still, it's good advice.

    Ok, so a child runs out behind your car and you knock them over, killing or severely injuring them. Do you hop out, shout at the parents about "Darwin Awards" and carry on with your day? If you do, you're a sociopath and probably shouldn't be put in a position of authority over anyone. I know one person who tried to kill themself four times because they hit a child, despite it not being their fault. I can't fault your logical argument, but the world isn't always logical.

    Offtopic; I like your sig. It's like an EULA; Complete rubbish. If the discussion were a court case, the verdict would be "No contest" and the other party would win. So yes, by you not refuting any points, made they win the argument. At least as far as your part in it is concerned.

    No, I don't expect a reply. ;)

    A small child lying down to reach something, or fallen down, is way way below any site line from the drivers seat

    The mirrors on my vehicle lower automatically when I engage reverse, to allow specifically the view of the rear wheels. No, I can't see directly behind my car for around 0.75m, but I can see anything entering that space larger than a small dog.

    The camera would be useless for me, except to line up the tow ball. Which I don't have.

    What if it costs several grand to get a broken camera fixed or replaced?

    Then it would cost multiples of several grand to purchase the car in the first place.

    These aren't going to be 2383490 Terapixel super-cameras with Monster cabling and a 50" 200Hz projection onto your windscreen; Expect something like your speedometer changing to a 640x480 4" screen, giving you a fish-eye lens view of the rear of your car so you don't hit anything stationary. It'll cost the same as getting a new stereo fitted, max.

    So... Those who donated to the project prior to completion have to wait for their boards while the folk who order direct get them shipped first?

    I can't help but think that this is a giant "fuck you, revenue comes first" to those who believed in the project from the start. Yeah, even charities have to pay their staff, and I understand that, and I hope I've just misunderstood. Otherwise, poor form guys.

    There are many hardware-firmware-Android combinations out there that just cannot be rooted. For example, Dell Streak 5 with Android 2.2

    1) Root phone.
    2) Install granular permission control app.
    3) Deny apps permissions you don't agree with.

    Cyanogenmod 7.1 has granular app control built in, or you can use a 3rd party app like LBE Privacy Guard.

    Don't use an Android device? Sorry, no advice for you. <trollface>I guess being able to control your device is important after all.</trollface>

    I posted this further up (risking "redundant") yet it's pertinent here too.

    I fished out a Toshiba T1910 "laptop" from a cupboard a while ago, and it still boots. 4MB RAM, 486SX 25MHz CPU, 200MB HDD, Windows 3.11. Time to zero post-boot HDD activity is 51 seconds, including a 3 second memory test.

    My Android phone takes over a minute to prompt me for my SIM PIN.

    I have a Toshiba T1910 from 1994 on my desk; I found it in a cupboard after a clear out at work. 4MB RAM, monochrome screen, 200MB HDD, 486SX 25MHz processor, Windows 3.11.

    Boot time, from power on to ready-to-work (no HDD activity after boot), including a 3 second memory test, is 51 seconds. Yes, I can do a lot more with my 2GHz dual core 4GB RAM workstation (get prettier graphics, browse the internet) but this laptop has Word, Excel, Powerpoint, networking.

    I am amazed that so little has changed.

    iPlayer does stream live content. Pick a channel on the left hand side at http://bbc.co.uk/iplayer and you'll see the very top of the list is marked "Watch Live". You need a TV license to watch live streamed TV via iPlayer as stated at http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/playing_tv_progs/tvlicence.

    I don't watch live shows on iPlayer; I only every use it because the shows I want to watch are on at inconvenient times.
