Well, there ARE other servers. The problem comes up when you have two different servers assigning different addresses to the same name. It's hard to 'touch base' with your friends when your slashdot.org leads here and their slashdot.org leads to rowdy muppet porn.
Or, whoever survives will just be stronger - and by an amount proportionate to their opponent:) And since they're both huge, the winner will be.. damned huge.
Rebooting? While your Windows box may need rebooting often, my gateway box gets rebooted maybe once a month, when I accidentally hit the power switch for that outlet >_< I really need to move the cord to somewhere else. That box is running 98. My ME box is even more sweet, considering it actually does work. No crashes in the past month ^_^
Doesn't seem to suspect to me. What's the easiest way to make it so that support calls are only about the "official" brand, and thus minimized? Engineer it to be that way, baby! If they had allowed generic usage, then even if they only "officially" supported Windows, then they would still deal with emails and calls, which cost time and money to take care of. This, at least theoretically, limits the problems to actually supported users.
Well, if you're feeling REALLY ninja, you can fix it. I once.. erm.. decided to play with my registry settings a little. Oops. Fortunately, I had a DOS-based hex editor lying around...
Variety and disorganization can be weakeness as well; a unified front puts on a better defense than one made of individual cells. Of course, the individual cells react better to changes.
Good and evil in everything.
Well, when was the last time Linus, Blizzard, etc. tried publishing a magazine?:) Like all 'software engineers', they're good at wasting money and time on vaporous products.
Ignoring the obvious 'Why?' and the ad hominim attack upon the previous poster, I'd just like to say that in the past X (where X is an arbitrary number) years, great works were created, and prior to X (where X is the same number), great works were created as well. The point? Well, I don't really have one, except to say that neither did you. Great works were created before the introduction of copyrights and great works were created after. Therefor, copyright has no effect on great works.

Did he just show it to them? Did he get something in return? How will we ever know?

Then I would never hear him. I don't go to concerts; I do not find them enjoyable. I listen to radio only when in the car. Thus, except for the VIVA Hits Collection I get every Christmas, the only time I hear something new is when I'm in the car.

I'm the exact opposite. I know lots of professionals, but no amateurs.

The only time I ever listen to the radio is when I'm driving in my car. At home, I have CDs and MP3s. That is all I listen to. I suppose I could listen to something else, but I don't have much inclination to. Thus, the only way for me to hear something new is for (a) a friend to send it to me or (b) to hear it on the radio. I'd rather not waste my bandwidth on something which I won't like. It's a gamble, but I'm happy to take it.

Man, nothing like a little coding elitism to put people in their place, eh?
Perhaps the first wheelmaker, the first farmers, DIDN'T let others know how it's done. Perhaps the others reverse-engineered the process after examining things. Or perhaps the process was licensed out. It'd be great if we could find out, eh?:)
> Why do people always expect to have things done for them, for free? Don't be so greedy.
For some reason, I find it utterly hilarious to find that on Slashdot.
In any case, many people don't have the skills to port things. I certainly don't. But I also don't have any interest in porting, since there are alternatives available for DOS/Windows:)
Maybe they have better things to do with their time? I'm not a fan of mascots in general and I have a particular disdain for 'Tux'. I can tolerate the BSD Daemon, though.
Yeah, there's a lot of truth in that. And it is my fault for choosing SUSE, since having 6 CDs worth of stuph is the entire point:)
Dammit, there's no good answer to anything.

There's an option to turn off that window, too :) I've got my home machine setup to do that. Makes life muuuuch happier.
I've not had a floppy drive in my PC for a long, long time. It was just taking up space, so I removed it :)

Yes, but with Exchange, I don't have to do any kind of transfer at all. It's just.. there!
I hate to say this, but no, you're not the only one :)

Problem solved!
Well, you don't maybe. I've written plenty of complicated things just because. Why not ask the creator?
Maybe the point is to simply exist?

Don't forget: When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
Or better: how Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament, Ultima Ascension, Red Alert 2, and Diablo 2 run.
I prefer:
Who are you?
What do you want?
Why are you here?
(and, of course, Where are you going?)
