100% compatibility of Windows API will accomplish diddly squat. That's only the start. Then you need to supply a clone of all the zillions of DLLs that you have splattered all over the place underneath \windows, before you can actually take a shrink-wrapped Windows app, and have any chance of running it.
Anyone who wants to get a Linux laptop should simply stop trying to waste their time with big manufacturers.
A year and a half ago I had absolutely no problems ordering a laptop with Linux, preloaded, from a small, independent computer shop. And, I'm not talking some cheap stuff, at that time, it was a top-of-the-line laptop - P-200MMX, 80MB RAM, 3 gig hard drive.
Here is somthing to think about. What do you think Linus or RMS would say if you wtote them an email saying Alan Cox is a liability and should be locked out of the kernel project because he works for Red Hat.
