A graphing calculator is a graphing calculator is a graphing calculator. The real difference is the math features.

I would not be caught dead with an 82, becuase of its lack of advanced math functions. I even prefer my TI-86 over the 'more advanced' 89, because it has some annoying features, no Nth roots, instead you have to goto x^(1/n). Basically calculators add more functionality and advanced features. Of course, algabraic manipulation is a NICE thing to have on the 89. :P

  3. Re:What Next, Books? on Checking Out Library Censorship · · Score: 1
That is the same as censorship. News sites can and will be biased. The REAL news is available here at places like slashdot. There are two sides to every story, Mainstream news gives only one side, and they only cover stories of national significance, or that'll sell more papers.

For example, when I was doing a research paper on capital punishment, there is NOTHING of relevance that you can find on news searches, encyclopeidas. Instead I was able to find pro/anti cp groups on the internet. I read both of their stories, and used them in my paper. I got an A. Under your suggestion, I would not have been able to do any of this, and I wouldn't have been able to do my research paper.

  4. A Sad Day on Checking Out Library Censorship · · Score: 2
I think it will be a sad day when this occurs. This country was founded on the principals of Free Speech, and now they are all being stripped away before us. What these religious/political zealots don't seem to realize is that its your own damn fault if your kid looks at porn/bombmaking.

You are a parent. As a parent you have responsibilities. Your responsibilites are to teach your children what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. If you don't do that, then it is your fault. Just because technology makes this type of 'immoral' information easily available, does not mean that it can't be blocked by teaching a child what is right and wrong. Instead of taking up this problem and solving it yourself by teaching your child, you wimp out and call on Big Brother to do it for you.

It won't work. A child needs a parent to tell them what is right and wrong. Blocking it just makes them angry because they can't find information that is OK, because their parents never told them it was wrong.

Instead of teaching your child to become a better person, you are castrating all of society by your lazyness.

Of course overclocking can damage a processor, it is part of the risk. If a mom and pop store shafts you, don't buy from there anymore. Buying from a mom and pop isn't economical anyway because their prices are normally higher, and if they aren't, something is up.

In addition, when I referred to underclock, that meant from the overclock.

  6. Re:Why overclocking is EVIL and must be stopped. on Asus A7V Overclocking Confirmed · · Score: 1
Yea right. It is the companies fault. If they receive a 'defective' product, they need to test it more throughly before putting it back on the floor to sell, I sure as hell would rather than sell my customer a possibly defective product.

Even with that, nowadays, its kinda hard to screw up your processor if you are overclocking. Most people who overclock know that it produces heat. You cool it down. It works. If it doesn't, underclock it. It now works fine.

I personally have not seen seen any ads for a 1Ghz Computer that wasn't an AMD, even from Dell! Now, Intel wants to jump the gun and 'release' a procesor which it has no capability of producing. It is straight out lying to the public AND its investors.

    Give us a break.

I think it is more of an issue of ease of use.

Many Napster users are teenagers. As we all know, teenagers do not have access to their "own" credit cards. Teenagers can go to their local store and pay cash for a CD. You can't do that online. To buy online, on their own, they have to get a Credit card, get it authorized, pay monthy fees, and pay the bill when it comes. Cash is a lot easier. That is why the free stuff is so popular.

    Example:
You download Napster, and you don't have to pull out any credit card and punch in numbers and wait for your 20cent purchase to ring up. You get on, search and hit download. What could be easier?

The ONLY way online music purchases will be welcomed is if it doesn't require a credit card EVERY time for that minisucle fee (.20 - $5).

The easiest way around this is charge a monthy fee, and allow for a certain number of downloads per month, and make a free sample of every song available. Keep it simple stupid.

Lastly, almost everyone wants the bands they hear on the radio. Not many people want to give a new band a chance unless they're really into music. THAT is why emusic.com isn't as popluar as Napster.

  10. Re:Pentium 4 = Funeral Knell for PowerPC? on Intel Announces Pentium 4 · · Score: 1

I highly doubt that. The P4 is designed for high clock speeds, not high per-clock performance. It has been speculated that the P4 will actually be SLOWER than an equivelantly clocked P3/Athlon. Granted, this makes the processor look 'faster' but for those of us who know computers, it won't work. To the Death of Power PC. PowerPC has some whipass specs, and its real-world performance often beats Intel clock-for-clock, however, the hardware is expensive! If I could get a Mac/PowerPC that was upgradable , modular and as cheap as my PC is, I would be using PowerPC. As it is, I don't. Lastly, if you are buying a Mac, you are either: 1.Need a Mac. or 2. Want the power that comes with PowerPC. Thus, there will always be a place for PowerPC

  11. Schools are like this. on Criminal Libel, Free Speech And The Net · · Score: 3
The Government School system in this country is whacked out. Our High School has a whacked out assistant principal who is basically a tyrant. Schools own you, so they feel they can do whatever they feel necessary.

In my experience, school authorities are most afraid of students who know how to use comptuers. Why? Because they are afraid of anything they know nothing about, they don't want someone to make them look stupid, so they overreact.

I used to work for our public school system. They fired our former Technology guru, basically because they did not like him. They shut down the network for a month, during the school year. Most students were back up within 3 weeks, however those who worked with the former techonology guru were still locked out. We were told that they wanted the system 'secure' before they let us back on. A few phone calls by our parents fixed that, but they are still afraid of us.

Just the other week, a student was sent into time out for using the Microsoft Chat program provided to every student in the Start menu. According to the Assistant Principal, this is illegal in the district's "Acceptable Use" Policy. She then refused to show this policy to the student in question.

Something needs to be done. School Officials are often good people who for the most part are just doing their job. But there are those out there who prey on the weak, the ones who school record are often times less than explemplary(sp?). If someone doesn't fight them, they could completely control students lives. They will find fault in a student who was trying to find his own way to deal with something that these officials SHOULD have known about and SHOULD have dealt with before it got to this. Its their own stupidity and they're going to make this kid pay for it.
