I dare say the 787's systems have been designed in compliance with these specifications which are intended to allow for integrated avionics systems with the various components running in effectively isolated space and time domains. So the entertainment and flight control software may well run in the same box but they have no way of communicating or of having any influence one upon the other. A divide by 0 in the internet modeule would be isolated to that module for instance.
This has been recognised as a problem for many years. NASA's aeronautics side was going to look at UAV operations in the National Airspace (NAS) under a program called ACCESS-5 (IIRC). ACCESS-5 was canceled sometime after early 2005 though.
Leave us not forget that all the potential competitors got cracked as well. The only system in which the public should have any confidence at all would have to open source. Until such time as that occurs paper ballots could carry the load. And there'd be less whining from Dhimmicreeps since they are old hands at perverting that system.
