Sure. Just like "cou" (neck) in French confuses Portuguese people because it sounds like "ASS" in Portuguese.
Just the same way "Free" confuses any non-English speaker.

    What's your point?

If anything, it should be in the REAL universal language: Latin.

It doesn't even favor any country. It's a dead language (unfortunately in my opinion).

    --

Damn it. I'm reposting under my account, even though I'm boycotting Slashdot, because French people, with their language protectionism, piss me off. And no, I'm not assuming the parent speaks French.

My initial post is a pretty good example of why not to post on Slashdot drunk. People with a life go out on Friday nights.

Still, it is interesting, because that's what I really think.
Makes me wonder why it's my second bookmark on Safari, right after Google.

Oh, and I'm 28. I started reading slashdot after mandrake (mandrake.net) mentioned it on his website.

As Taco's little fun website, it was pretty cool. As a business that targets an audience that uses Internet Explorer, it is really low quality. They can't even spell.

People are cool, corporate entities don't qualify. Nothing wrong with corporations, but you don't say that GE is a cute company, do you? Or that IBM has a sense of humor?

Cool people used to post here. I used to actually learn stuff from people who really knew their shit.

Well, no point in bitching about a site that I read. There is a very simple solution: no more hits from my IP.

    Take care.

Sluts! CmdrTaco. You are the worst of them all. Slut! You might as well fuck for money! Better business than this shit. Stop influencing youngsters!

  4. iChat AV on FCC Lifts AOL IM Limits · · Score: 4, Interesting
I really hope that AOL interoperates with iChat AV.

They don't need to come up with another incompatible standard. Go with Apple.

Steve Jobs already mentioned that his stuff is open, and that he's waiting for other companies to copy it. This would be the perfect way to do it.

iChat AV is awesome, but currently, it can only do VC with other iChat AV users (on the Mac).

Hell, iChat already uses the AOL protocol and everything... What are they waiting for???

  5. FUDing MacOS X on Mac OS X Power Tools · · Score: 5, Insightful

You've already been modded a Troll but some people already read your rubbish. I'll reply.

1 - You claim that MacOS X bears as much resemblance to "real" UNIX as Windows ME.
This is just hilarious. MacOS X is as real of a UNIX as Linux. You can compile a most POSIX source unaltered in both. Can you do that under Windows ME without add-on compatibily layers?

2 - You say Apple ignored X to write Quartz. There is an Apple branded FREE (beer) X server for MacOS X. It's based off XFree. It's not untested and it's not an emulation layer. I does integrate with the rest of the Desktop. While not final code, it's very stable.

3 - You claim Darwin is proprietary. It is not. Quite simply, you could also claim that the sky is green. Not true.

4 - You claim FreeBSD is moribund. This has nothing to do with MacOS X, and ridiculous. Free software is never moribund. It can't die. FreeBSD is alive and well, too.

5 - You claim Apple used Mach-O to break compatibily with ELF?
Why should they use ELF? They can do whatever they want, and they chose to use the Mach-O format for legacy reasons related to NeXTStep.

6 - You claim NetInfo is like the Windows Registry, and that it breaks compatibily.
Netinfo is just practical. Other vendors do similar things (like IBM) with they UNIXes.
It's legacy from NeXTStep. It's easy to use and it gets the job done. I see no problem with it.

7 - You claim Apple is shoving DRM down our throats. You should be glad that Apple cut the best DRM deal there is. Nobody else has a lighter DRM system. You forget that they are a company and they will be toasted by the RIAA and MPAA if they don't enforce some sort of DRM. They came up with something practical.

I do not like DRM, but if I ran a company, I couldn't have done better than Apple.

Don't you have anything else better to do than to diss Apple and MacOS X? What's your problem? You're 10 and can't affort one of those pretty shiny Apple computers?

I've used PC's since the original IBM PC came out, OS/2 from 87 to 98 and Linux from 95-present.

I got an iBook because I thought the hardware was sexy. I tought about installing Yellow Dog and a two button mouse. Guess what happened?

I ditched Linux for MacOS X but kept using my old apps, like mutt and so on. I kept writing C code with vi, et all

After 3 months, I found myself using the Mail app that comes with MacOS X, Project Builder, and Objective C.

Cocoa is wonderfull -- get the Hillegrass book, it's good beginning stuff.

I never intended to make the switch. It was the hardware that got me. Then, slowly I got hooked. I highly recommend the platform. I would never ever use a mac before MacOS X, but now I think of it as the NeXT box that I never got.

Sometimes I think of the non-free nature of the whole thing, but the fact that Darwin, gcc, and a lot of other stuff is Open Source/Free, it makes me feel a little better. Besides you can run Darwin, X and GNUStep.
