  1. Linux version has some problems on Netscape 6 Preview Release · · Score: 1
I'm running RedHat 6.1 and I like the latest Netscape. I only have a few complaints:

    • It's slower than snot. Well, at least it's slower than it should be considering I'm running a PIII 500mHz w/128MB of RAM. NS 4.72 runs much faster on my machine.
    • The package sucks. You untar/ungzip it into a directory called package and then you must go in there and type ./netscape. If you try to move the directory anywhere else (like somewhere normal), it won't work. There's no migrator (well, kinda). Overall, very un-friendly and I think there should be some sort of install program so you can put it somewhere besides your home directory.
    • I think the concept of the MySidebar could be cool, but it's not as customizable as I'd like. Sure, I can rip out all of that junk they put in there and have a nice CNN thing and my bookmarks. But, I think a Slashdot one that loads up the most recent articles would be shweet. You cannot pick an individual bookmark to place on there...all or none.
    • In the Messenger program, even if your preferences say "Double Click on a message to open it in a new window", it doesn't work. There's no way to view your message save the window at the bottom of the messenger window (which I don't like to use).
    • The Bookmark manager really sucks. You can't even really manage them. I tried all of the options when you right-click on a bookmark and they all do nothing.
    • What's up with that Local Mail folder that -has- to be in the Messenger? It has no use and there's no way to get rid of it!
    • I think the search button should be completely customizable. Rather, you can pick your search engine from about 8 pre-set options in your (cluttered) Preferences menu. How hard would it be to make it customizable so when I click on it, it goes to Google?

All in all, I think once the bugs get worked out, this will be a very nice browser, but right now...it's got some problems.

And why didn't I post all of these complains on their feedback page? Because it don't even work!
