When I see terms like "binary compatibility" in reference to a Linux distro, plus things like Lindows' application pay-service, it almost seems like we're being told that different Linux distros can't share the same programs.
If I'm slightly confused by this, imagine what the average user (who I imagine is the target market here) must think.
How long before we start to see corporate sponsership of our armed forces? Ideas like "Apple Navy", "AOL/Time-Warner Air Force" and "Dell Army" are becoming less outlandish.
On the plus side, the marketing would be interesting.
While on the subject, I recall some Nintendo fanboy reaction over using "GCN" (GameCube Nintendo) as the acronym for the Nintendo GameCube instead of the slightly more obvious "NGC". Obviously, this was done to provide a uniform acronym system compliant with the standard set by the GameBoy Advance (GBA), and to show emphasis on that first word, "Game".
I always thought that the fanboy backlash was silly, and that Nintendo should abbreviate the name of the Nintendo GameCube the most logical way, and simply refer to it as the NiGaCube.
Well, I guess this explains why I can't ping my server. Hopefully things will be sane again in the relatively near future.
I had considered just giving in and changing it to something like "Slacking for People Who Are As Retarded as Those Dumb Fucks at Wiley Publishing," but I realized I'd been given a chance to stand up for what so many of us spend a good deal complaining about - free speech.
As you can see in my response letter (thanks to those who posted it here), I did decide to stand up for myself. I just hope I did the right thing.
Thanks to those of you who actually managed to get to the site, to those of you who might try back later, and thanks a lot to Blue Aardvark House for GETTING THE FUCKING SERVER SLASHDOTTED.
Since I can pretty much count on my ISP being none-to-thrilled with the traffic, if anyone happens to feel like making a donation towards covering the damage of the slashDoS (or, god forbid, legal costs), we accept Paypal:P
It does need to be done on the cheap (like $100 or so), but the options aren't all that limited, I don't think. The rule is that there can be only one box. It doesn't have to be a rack-mountable, it could just be a dual-board case of any kind. The thing is, I'd like to use the current hardware, and not have to roll my own case.

I suspect that I'll be the only one to find this funny.
"No one will deny that Sony is a world-class hardware company, and no one would deny that Microsoft is a world-class software company. Nintendo aspires to be neither one of those things." -- Peter Main, a Nintendo marketing executive, to the San Francisco Chronicle
The quote has been taken out of context. Obviously, he means hardware and software companies as opposed to video game companies.
A lot of non-mainstream mom-and-pop type computer stores keep old laptops around. I worked at a PC place in Denver for a while, and we had this huge stack of laptops and parts that were either given to us or left behind by their owners. I never got a chance to test them out, but the general concensus was that they were still functional.
Unless it runs on MacOS or will be available in a smaller form factor of varying stylish colors, I fail to see how this is postworthy on Slashdot.
This company has been doing it since blaster. They probably weren't the first, but this is hardly a new idea.
I've certainly had my issues with Google.
My mom's response to my new phone...
"Wow, that phone looks like it's from Star Trek. Beam me up, Scotty"
"You can actually beam up with it."
"What? How?"
"Just press star... and then 'trek'"

The article doesn't really say anything new, but maybe it will inspire someone to make me a goddamn flying car.

I'm a slashdot article!
Now allow me to link to what the WSJ didn't, Slackers Guild.
I had agreed to let them use my real name only if they used my pseudonym and mentioned my site. Thanks a bunch.
Someone mod this up. Nobody else got the source correct.
I just posted a comment, but it doesn't seem to be showing up. Did I break something?
"This computer is unique in the sense that not only is the computer built into the back of the monitor[...]"
Didn't the iMac do this?

The worst is over, thanks to Timothy changing the links. We seem to be back online. Please be kind.

This seems to be the best answer we've gotten so far. They don't have a price listing, but I've emailed them for more information.
:)
Thanks

I didn't say no one would get it, I just said I didn't think anyone else would find it funny.

Oh. Fuck you, you humorless swine.
This one bugged me:

Revolution Os: The revolution will not be televised. However, it will be part of this complete breakfast.

This seems like an appropriate time to mention the Slackers Guild.
