>>>you get more points from actually smelling and withstanding more and more disgusting customers.
I used to be a shoe salesman in college. Contrary to the post above, you actually get to meet lots of young high-school or college-aged women who are often very beautiful (being young), and often dress with low necklines. When they bend over, they expose all their "charms" to the salesman's eye.
Best. Damn. Job. Ever.
For a college student anyway.;-) The pay was decent too because I averaged $15 an hour commission; getting paid to flirt with the opposite sex is not a bad deal at all! It's almost as much fun as running for president & flirting with the cute volunteers.

Guessing 36 combinations doesn't seem like a big hassle to me? And you have a 50-50 chance of getting the right combination in just 18 tries.
Like the Spanish-American War Tax that was applied to telephones in the 1890s. That tax continued sucking money for one hundred years until it was finally stopped.
When Congress passes laws, they should include a 25-year-sunset (the span of one generation), so the laws don't live forever. Same should apply to State laws.
McCain is more Democrat than Republican. I've often wondered why he didn't switch parties, and he's certainly no puppet of the neocons. Which is why I voted for him; he's a uniter not a divider.
Don't be surprised if, in three years, you hear people saying, "McCain voted with President Obama 90% of the time." McCain likes to ride the middle of the aisle & work with the opposite party to get things done. I don't know if the same can be said of President Obama.
Strictly-speaking, the racist reverend was correct. If you believe the Bible is the literal word of Yahweh (the Jewish/Christian/Muslim god), then about 90% of us ARE damned (to hades). Virtually any other, honest preacher will tell you the same, albeit with better tact than Mr. Wright.
>>>Obama is yet another example in our long line of presidents with mono-racial families.
Dear Student:
You may not have heard but he is actually the result of a MIXED black-white marriage. You probably would have known that if you bothered to do even a slight amount of reseach.
>>>while he was getting arrested for drinking from white-only water fountains
That's *precisely* why Mr. King would be against a strong "army like" security force. Instead of merely being arrested, he'd probably be drug-off to some offshore military base to be tortured & quietly disappeared.
BTW a strong internal Army is how the Roman Republic (and Senate) was overthrown 2000 years ago, and the general made himself into a dictator. Do we really want to see the same thing happen to the American Republic? Do we want some future president in command of an "army-like" force that he can use to push-aside the Congress & turn himself into a dictator?
According to exit polls (not actual votes), 95% of blacks voted for Obama. 5% actually voted for McCain, so yeah, they decided to make history and put into power the first black president. The exit polls show that ~65% of Asians/Latinos supported for Obama. Only 43% of whites supported for Obama. If this has been a whites-only election, McCain would now be president.
AGE: The results indicate that older voters are more conservative, with support for McCain gradually increasing from 32% (median age 23) to 44% (median age 34) up to 53% (65 or older). People become less liberal and more conservative as they advance in years.
Any theories why that might be? Perhaps they are trying to protect their lifelong-accumulated wealth from Democrat redistribution?
>>>the day we no longer feel it necessary to draw attention to the colour of someone's skin
I would be perfectly happy to forget the color of your skin.
So why do you keep bringing it up? I don't care if you're white, black, brown, or pink with yellow pokadots. You all look like humans to me! For example I don't look at William Powell as anything other than an American citizen who served his country with distinction. The only reason color is an issue is because YOU (and expecially the media) won't let it go: "Hey buddy, Mr. Powell is black." Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn what color he is. All I see is an American citizen; that's it.
It's a shame more people don't realize how equally-lousy Clinton was. He's responsible for a whole mess of things, like the dot-com crash of 2000, the failure to increase U.S. border security to prevent 9/11, and the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act that brought-down multiple banks.
I voted straight Republican, because I think they are unfairly being blamed (by folks like you) for the current mess, which properly lies on the head of ONE man (Bush). Also the Democrats were equally-complicit, since BOTH parties supported legislation that helped created the current crisis. And finally the Democrats held Congress for two years; did anything improve? Nope.
So to place all the blame on the Republicans is foolish IMHO; the blame lies mostly on Bush, with a remainder being spread-evenly across both sides of the Congress. Both R's and D's acted poorly these last two decades.
Well if President Obama did get a supermajority (60+ votes) in the Senate, otherwise the Democrats would be unstoppable, and we'd soon be as socialist as China. - Or maybe Australia (with a firewall, "breath test" to search for porn addicts, filtering of content, and so on).
CDs are also uncompressed, so they sound better when played back through, say, a surround-sound system. Downloadable MP#s or AACs are okay for ipods, but sound pretty bad on a full-sized stereo.
Lucky us he doesn't have a supermajority (60+ votes) in the Senate, otherwise the Democrats would be unstoppable, and we'd soon be as socialist as China.
Or maybe Australia (with a firewall, "breath test" to search for porn addicts, filtering of content, and so on).
If Atari, Activision, Sega, and Nintendo can sue gamers for distributing "out of print" 8-bit games from the 70s and 80s, I'm sure RIAA will just-as-happily sue you for copying out-of-print records. Reason: Even out-of-print stuff is still copyrighted. It's not fair but that's the way it works.
I think you're being anal. Seriously. I wouldn't be offended if someone said "Penn State" instead of the proper name Pennsylvania. Who cares about such trivialities?
That reminds me of my old high school friend who downloaded a Commodore Amiga hacker-demo called "helldemo". He renamed it "hellodemo" because he was afraid his mom might see it!
I call my porn "zzzstuff" in hopes nobody wants to look inside the "stuff" folder.
I agree. Laziness is often the same thing as "saving time". Why reinvent the wheel when somebody already did the work?
Here's a good illustration from the 8-bit gaming era:
- Pitfall II was created by the original programmer for the Atari 2600/VCS. Activision wanted to port this extremely successful game to other platforms, including the new Atari 5200/Supersystem and the Commodore=64. Activision assigned this task to two programmers who also happened to be good friends. - The C=64 programmer decided to recreate the whole thing from scratch. - The A5200 programmer decided to directly copy the code, and only change the pointers as needed.
The A5200 programmer finished his task in only half the time as his friend. He then used the extra days to program an entirely new level into the game (think Pitfall III). Reusing the code allowed him to create two games, instead of just one game.
I already downloaded the Billboard Hot 100 for every year from the 1930s to 2007. I'm all set.
As for the newer stuff, they won't see a single dime from my pocket. I think I will survive just fine if I never-again hear Britney's or Rihanna's voices.
>>>one business gains enough resources to start merging and ultimately wins out over all the other companies.
And then several new guys arrive on the scene, and they undercut the monopoly with lower prices, thereby restoring competition. One obvious example is the downloadable MP3, which killed the 1990s-eras monopoly on music (CDs and cassettes) that Sony and Philips once held.
I'm sure there are many, many other examples out there where a monopoly's back was broken by new innovative or cost-cutting competitors.
>>>they've been using something for free that was not lawfully theirs to use in the first place
True for the wireless microphone users, but not true for the TV broadcasters. There are over 5000 local stations and/or repeaters spread over this continent, and they have all bought-and-paid-for exclusive use of 1 channel per station. I think those local owners have a right to be angry the FCC decided to make their expensive licenses essentially worthless.
I'm sure the owners of expensive antennas are none too pleased either, since they will be losing approximately half their channels (the long-distance ones from neighboring cities).
>>>There is a huge amount of underused bandwidth in this part of the spectrum.
???
Here in the crowded Northeast region, I have four empty channels. 2,3,4, and 25, and only the UHF-band 25 can be used by these compact whitespace devices. So that's ONE empty channel. I don't call that a "huge amount" in any way, shape, or form.

Yeah single-tasking works since that's what DOS was designed for. But for multitasking the old DOS-based Windows is unstable.
