The tracking could be used for evil. So can flatware. That alone means nothing, I'm afriad. Speaking of using user data for evil, it sure took a long time for this/. page to render while I waited for doubleclick's ad to load.
So what happens after you've got your hard drive filled with rented music and the monthly fee goes up to $199.95/month?
Yes, because they want to make it completely unafordable. Why price yourself out of the market of recurring revenue, which is the goal. Stop being so fucking shrill about this. Does rent-a-song suck? Yes. Are they going to get everyone hooked and then jack up the price to 200/month. Surely the most asinine thing I've read here in a year.
Reminders that last for days?!!?! When will people wake up and take action to prevent such bullyish, strongarm tactics? Isn't this terrorism? Good god help us all!
They did make a great design statement that I liked, but as a PC user, I found it odd to see in a desktop-oriented machine the combination of high end power coupled with an appliance-like construction that didn't really invite much in the way of hardware expansion. Am I totally off on this?
Well said! I appreciate Mr. Katz's intentions but his carte blanche to post whiney drivel and hyperinflated rhetoric really pushes the envelope of good taste, having long ago left behind good sense.
Full agreement here - what exactly were your expectations, Katz? I mean, complaining about how some phrase doesn't translate into anything meaningful is the lowest of complaints from a person who goes into a movie willing to accept magic resurrections.
More broadly, is there *anything* in this world that makes you happy? I saw the movie and thought it wasn't nearly as tight as the original, but had the same presence, or lack thereof, plot, character, etc. I laughed, I was startled, I cringed once or twice, I was entertained. Lighten up.
Does anyone actually believe that prison is an appropriate punishment for this? It's not like he killed anyone or burned someone's house down. I think losing the privelege of net access or access to computers is a more fitting repair and future protection of society than prison. I find it pretty incredible that many folks here are so gung ho on such a medieval treatment for a modern crime.
The poster wonders why we need to exercise caution about introducing something like BC into an organism that doesn't regularly carry it. It's impact on humans may be beneficial, but it is substantial as the poster points out. That alone shows that the impact to other organisms may be as or more profound.
I searched for the following:
Age of Empires II
Age of Empires the Conquerors
AOE II
AOE...
No luck, and it kept wanting me to basically pick progressively smaller sets of terms from those I entered. The only thing that got me anywhere was a one-word search. Maybe I used it wrong:P
Well, I'm not an expert in monetarist economics, but I do know that any sort of volunteer work would also fall under your blanket of 'slavery'. That aside, type type of economics you purport to expert in is one that has been unable to accurately measure value for about 20 years now. The traditional economic metrics and mindsets haven't been able to say why companies like VA, Redhat, etc. have such high market valuations beyond trite comparisons to the Dutch Tuplip frenzies. Since you can't understand, you attack. I don't think the Linux community disdains profit qua profit, just profit at the expense of quality (oops, another thing economics doesn't measure well!)
If the idea is to compete with MS head-on, then its a very bad idea. If you want to win as the underdog, you have to play as the underdog, and that means hitting MS from multiple points on a steady, consistent basis. Nothing short of the second coming of OJ will steal the day from MS, so if you the soundest tactic is to let them steamroll through the second half of February and be ready to move in once that initial steam blows away.

So what? The Sims installation also wanted to plop AOL's client on my machine. It's no more or less co-optive than any other AOL drop scheme.

I clicked the this link, but it goes to a bunch of nothing. Kinda like the proof! Were you making an ironic joke or are you just a fuckwit?

What a ridiculous concept. Anyone who 'trusts' a news site should contact me for a fire sale of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Why does this story keep getting repeated play here? Wake up, moderators.
