Ok, I saw no mention in the article of the echo chamber that Democrats lived in for the last 4 years. If we're going to take back the country, we need to instill some discipline: STOP ACTING LIKE THE GUY ACROSS THE DIVIDE IS AN IDIOT. Until we get every single Democrat repeating that in their sleep, nothing's gonna change.
Open-Source Politics means: "I think Republicans are idiots. What's this? Lord Omlette says I shouldn't treat Republicans as idiots? FUCK THAT NOISE! I'ma ignore him and surf a different website. Oooh look, this blog agrees w/ me that Republicans are idiots. Hurray for the Internet!"
All the nifty tools and new communications paradigms are not going to change a goddamned thing until we get back to recognizing that the opposing force are Americans, same as us.
You may not have been paying attention, but pretty soon "don't like it? don't go to iraq." isn't going to apply to alot of us.
We shouldn't treat all people like human beings because we expect others to reciprocate. We must treat other people like human beings because we are the Shining City on the Hill, and we must set the example for others.
In any case, a better argument for the Geneva Convention would be Abu Ghraib: look at what a wonderfully effective marketing and recruiting tool those photographs were for Al-Qaida's global franchise...
I don't know what the rest of you, but for me, the quote at the bottom of the page says "You cannot achieve the impossible without attempting the absurd."
If someone gave me money to study "psychic teleportation", I'd be like "Thank you, Allah!" and immediately begin researching liquor and hookers.
"Guys, you're not gonna believe this! Last night, I as at this strip club, I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I was face down in the gutter a few blocks away!"

It's fairly obvious you're not the only one who feels that way about Byte, I see complaints like yours almost daily... I just don't understand why someone won't come out w/ a magazine that targets the "We read Byte when it didn't suck" demographic...
I'm amused that this got an FPP, but Eminem's Mosh didn't. MTV wasn't going to play it, but counterterrorists flooded the request page and forced them to play it.
If you haven't seen the video, then please watch it. Regardless of what you think of Eminem (in fact, the video probably assumes you know who he is and have already formed your preconceptions), the climax is pretty damn amazing.
Did anyone ever read "Superiority" by Arthur C. Clarke? It was included in "Best Military Science Fiction of the 20th Century". The plot is that the military commander of one side is trying to explain why his side lost despite ridiculously overwhelming technological superiority.
Obviously that's not what's going to happen to us, but I still think the short story is relevant...
Don't get me wrong, we will still be able to use the tides if we absolutely had to, I'm not saying that we ever would. I'm talking about banning them from the rest of the world.
D'oh, I misread the article. ^^;; The "ease of use" comes from its integration w/ Borland Delphi...
This month's DDJ had an article on Firebird, a DBMS that works on both Windows & Linux... maybe that'll help?
Who in Bush's name is going to enforce this law?

Hm...

In all my time on slashdot, I don't think I've ever seen someone miss the point by so much...
Did anyone actually read the comments of the story? I'm not a big fan of the administration, but it does seem as if someone got taken for a ride.
If this was the only thing convincing you not to vote for Bush, what the hell have you guys been doing?

Same site also has a pretty good analysis of the video.

Just curious, how did you stay warm during previous winters?

I recommend we ban the tides.

Wow, so can I shove this in the face of all those people making fun of me asking "Don't you have any balls?!" when I order all those girly drinks?
I suspect not, but still...
If the compiler course used something called JOOS, guaranteed the entire damn thing was cribbed from some other school >_<
Shouldn't this be a poll question?
Just give us a full-page spread of Firefox-ko and Thunderbird-ko, that'll get everyone's attention.
If it's 180 degrees off, can this be considered a sign error, like when the Hubble first launched?
(disclaimer: I don't know wtf I'm talking about)
Uh, wow. What's next, a chair made of human skulls?
That's it, I'm heading to China right now and reporting slashdot.
No, next question.
