Only someone who truly hates America would ever have written this:
I don't any plans for the aftermath...
Isn't it obvious? Once we liberate all the Chinese satellites, China and space will welcome us w/ singing and dancing and rose petals.
I personally like the "Fire high-powered laser beams from Earth to redirect objects so they will burn up in earth's atmosphere" option because it means less stuff we have to attach to our spacecraft plus if Aliens invade, we'll at least have something to use against them...
Is this like a feedback correction system? Civilization cuts down alot of trees, nature destroys civilization, tress grow back, civilization cuts down alot of trees,...
I'm sorry, but just because you don't have a sense of humor doesn't mean the rest of us are "insensitive". I can't promise that I won't make fun of you when you die, but we live in a world of uncertainty.
Vint Cerf, the father of TCP/IP, formed a 527 something-or-other, but he couldn't be bothered to make a fucking website! How does he expect to rally support from the rest of us?
2. The partition of India into India & West/East Pakistan, War w/ Pakistan over Kashmir, War w/ China over Ladakh & Arunachal Pradesh, etc. are the sort of humiliating events that a proud culture simply cannot stand.
If you read that slashdot article a day or so ago about that IEEE Spectrum article on radioactive batteries, you'd see that it won't be too long until we get/. posts like "8 year battery life?!? Why is battery life so short everywhere I look?"
1. India was occupied by the British for hundreds of years resulting in millions of casualties. 2. The partition of India, Kashmir, Tibet, etc. are the sort of humiliating events that a proud culture simply cannot stand. 3. The invasion of Iraq in 1991 sent a very clear message: develop the technology ourselves and do it right the fuck now, otherwise we're next.
There's a book called "Wings of Fire" by A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (India's president), I strongly recommend it to anyone who's ever curious about what India's up to.
In the event anyone else is thinking "OMG, poor country can't spend moneies on weapons, WTF", after you read "Wings of Fire", check out "Ignited Minds", also by Abdul Kalam...
If someone hits you in the face repeatedly every day that you meet them, and then one day they decide to hit you in the gut or stomp on your feet, is it really an improvement?
What about the hole in the Ozone Layer? Would that mitigate some of the problems? (at least make it more effective than an earth based telescope elsewhere)
As long as they don't build it on top of any giant pyramids, they should be ok...
Visited William n Mary College in Virginia when I was there on a class trip. Of course, my class was made up of a bunch of thugs from all over Hudson County, NJ. We were just floored that everywhere were unlocked bikes lying in fields, unlocked cars, unlocked doors. It really was something else.
It was an idea. At some point though, someone is gonna learn from something, and then we're fucked. In the meantime, we should be planning for the future...
An alternative to recognize is that the Chinese have learned from the Japanese's mistakes. A bonus is that North Korea isn't threatening to launch nukes @ them...
You know what? Fuck the debates. They're not important.
I'll tell you what is important: Slashdot interviews. It's shameful that the wankers running this site haven't already solicited slashdotters for +5 insightful questions that they want answers to.
No, if Kerry had come back to vote, the Republicans would have said "aw shucks" and the ones that voted for it would have switched their votes to "No" and let it go... because there can always engineer more opportunities to make him look bad.

Yup, any day now...
It used to be that patent applications had to include a prototype model of some sort, I say we bring that back.
Megatron must be stopped, no matter the cost.
One shall stand, one shall fall!
It's bad enough that Putin is taking Russia back into totalitarianism, must we also convince them that the United States is their enemy?!
Nope.

Those grumbling about the price will get a laptop from Averatec for about half the price.
If we're going to build landing pads for motherships, shouldn't we at least build them on Earth?
"I've got a hammer, and I use it for everything!"
Excellent plan.

Thanks for the head's up...
Wait, if Bush is allowed to register on Florida's ballot a day after the deadline, then surely we can let Nader sign up?
