Its also amazing how grades, "earned" or not in a boring ass classroom can make a difference of tens of thousands of dollars. Amazing world we have here eh?
Exactly. Personally, I'm getting ready to apply for scholarships and quite frankly, the thought of losing out to some asshole who just hacked his grades makes my blood boil. Frankly, I wouldn't really care if he was thrown in prison; but thats for a judge and jury to decide.
Whom did he hurt? He hurt, or at least tried to hurt, every other applicant to the scholarships he applied to. In addition, had he been accepted, the college would have been hurt because he would have been a waste of scholarship funding. These grades aren't trivial;if his hacked grades beat out someone, it would cost them dearly, seeing that paying for college requires a second mortgage (aka. a student loan), thats if your parents don't have bad credit. In that case, the person his hacked grades beat would be denied a chance at attending a good college entirely.
I don't want my phone being tapped because: A. I am not scared of what some terrorist is trying to do (many more people die in car crashes but we are scared shitless of driving) and B. I really would like to see our tax dollars do something useful, like paying off this gigantic debt we are sitting on.
I suggest you familiarize yourself with the historical record of those you mentioned, and add in Chairman Mao, the Khmer Rouge, Francisco Franco, Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, and a number of other popular icons of the lefty loonybin, and then come back and tell me how you justify putting a sitting president among them. And that's why I cringe when people say "We really need to get the Democrats the White House and majorities Congress in 2008" or something to that effect. They have no interest in you, the country, or anything but power and money. I cringe because people really should know better by now then to wish for an imbalance of power. The last time the Democrats had a really big majority and a president, (here's a hint, it was LBJ from '64-'66) they started, or at least vastly escalated, the Vietnam War. They passed the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, an act, like the one the GOP passed in '02, which ceded congressional authority (supposed to be guaranteed by the War Powers Act) to the president to start a war.

For Acer, yes. Using Linux will allow them to continue selling their lower-end laptops, and position themselves in a lower price bracket. Personally, I'm rather exited about this as I have been running Linux (Ubuntu or Mepis) on a aspire 3620 (512 MB RAM, Celeron 1.6, GMA 915) for awhile now. Unfortunately, after two years of hard abuse, (dropped it at least five times and even spilled Gatorade (an electrolyte) on it) I may have to replace it soon (before the next school year).
