I agree wholeheartedly. I must admit that while I realize I can buy the same book at bn.com or quite often Fatbrain, I continually purchase all books I buy from Amazon.com. It's because I love their service and want to help them in whatever way I can. Despite the inane rallying calls of the FAR out-of-touch pundits such as RMS, I will continue to buy from Amazon.com simply because I have never been disappointed.

The recognition of their brand as one of wonderful service will only continue to increase.

I suspect the speed of this service will be much the same as MyWebOS. For those that have not used the service, it leaves much to be desired.

With VMWare, Linux newbies don't have to repartition, etc, and ifthey get freaked out, they're just a Cntrl+Alt+Esc away from returning to Windows. This also makes it a lot easier to Linux Newbies to setup their Internet connections, as they can easily switch into windows and search through Linux.com or LinuxNewbie.org.

This is definitely a nifty site though:)

Or better? They don't know yet? And remember, Nvidia said the NV25 was X-Box ONLY.

Sounds as if this is timed to draw some hype on the coattails of the X-box.

This is completely off-topic..but anywho. I dont see how you can possibly claim that gun control legislation is unconstitional. The constitution says give a well-organized militia the right to bear arms. It makes no mention of the right to bear arms without a license. Nor does it mention an INDIVIDUALS right to bear arms, for that matter.

We live in a mature democracy. The first of its kind. You cannot make the argument that individuals need to bear arms to protect their freedom. Guns for indivudals serve only 2 purposes - Crime, and protection from crime. Ban all handguns, and miraculously remove all guns from society, and you'll have a lot fewer murders. Me thinks it would be quite a lot harder to kill someone face to face, stabbing them 20 times, then it would be to shoot them in the head from 10 feet back.

  13. A whole new light on Bezos Responds to Tim O'Reilly's Open Letter · · Score: 1

I found this read immensely interesting. In the past we could all only assume what Jeff thought about the patent - I, and im sure most others, assumed he, as everyone else, saw the patent as indefensible, but pursued it for purely greedy motives. But from O'reilly's synopsis, Jeff seems to genuinely believe it's a fair patent - and that's a key point one should consider when subscribing to the Amazon boycotter's views.

It's nice to see that Jeff is willing to consider making a public promise not to pursue lawsuits against 'non-aggressive, innovating' companies. He had a good point about the harm it could cause the suit against B&N though.

In light of this interview, I think a lot of people should reconsider their boycott. I never did boycott Amazon, simply because I love their service. If I order an out-of-print book from B&N, they don't query a network of used bookstores, send me an email with the cheapest price available within 24 hours and have it at my doorstep within a week - and that is a truly amazing feat when it comes to some long out of print books.

  19. Fair ruling on Preliminary Injunction Issued in DVD CCA Case · · Score: 1

I felt that Elfving was very fair in his ruling. The fundamental outry regarding this case in the first place was the restrictions the DVD CCA were seeking towards linking - which would inherently violate freedom of speech. The Judge was very clear in stating his unwillingness to issue an injunction against links to other sites, and was very correct in stating that it was unnecessary, as he had already issued an injunction ordering the removal of the said IP from all servers. I think most everyone expected this preliminary injunction. It is not uncommon for a judge to issue an injunction in a case like this. As others have said before, it is simply a means to put the activities that have brought the complaints on 'hold.' It's a prudent decision, as irreperable harm could be caused if the inujunction was not granted, and the judge later sided with the DVD CCA. All in all, I thought it was a very balanced and fair ruling.
