Unless, of course, we're finally in the timeline where the LHC never quite works.
OR the timeline where you're the only non-cloned human left alive, surrounded by clones of your ex-girlfriend. Then you'll wish you didn't get on her bad side right before 'the accident'.
You should probably ask bob to look over your journal entries before you ask him to look at other posts belonging to other people.
Fixing the grammar in your stories won't fix your non-sensical ramblings of your crappy life, but it would at least qualify you to make stupid grammar nazi comments.
Oh, and if you have TWO hammers, and one is made of dead babies, then ONE of those two hammers is probably not good for anything except dead baby jokes.
I'm not a big fan of blu-ray. Just so long as my TV-and-Movie rips from TPB and the green demon keep coming in HD, I'll never bother getting a real Blu-ray drive. Why bother paying for a physical product, when you can pay (or not) for an electronic one? Especially when it is easier to find HD downloads than Blu-ray discs.
So, you're saying that there is a recession, so lets just get rid of the entire system.
Just because something is going to be hard, doesn't mean it should be abandoned. I can think of lots of difficult things I've done that were worth it.
... like yo' mama:o
Okay, but seriously. If there is a problem, it needs to be fixed sooner, rather than later - otherwise, when the recession is over, the problem will STILL be there. Only, it'll be older, and more entrenched, and even HARDER to fix.
But, it might make some of the hard work (of which you speak) easier.
most programming languages are human comprehensible... provided you've been trained in them.
And isn't that the point? We need people trained in COBOL to understand COBOL. So human comprehensibility or not, we're still stuck using old technology (which is not always a bad thing).
Yes, literacy is a tool. But since language, reading and the written word have been influential throughout history, and the vast proliferation of literacy and knowledge (gutenberg, anyone?) was in part responsible for the development of civilization as we know it... then literacy is probably more of a good thing than a bad thing.
Although history is written by the winners - it is safe to say that literacy is probably going to kill less people than, say... men + horses + guns.
Your argument that
they need to develop at their own pace without those with good-intentions paving the way.
would be valid if those struggling economies and cultures didn't want to participate in the world economy. But they do - they are attempting to compete in a world where they're not equipped to compete. If people desire the luxuries that come with modernization, then they have to pay the price of modernization. I'd love to live in an environment where I didn't have to deal with smokers, teenagers and idiots every day - but I also want to live in a large city with access to amenities.
You can pick your actions, but not your consequences. 'Developing' countries and the population that wants to be educated MUST pay the price of development - either through cash or sacrifices of the 'old' ways. You can have some of both, but you can't be completely modernized and completely true to your roots. It just doesn't happen. China, America, Europe have all gone through industrialization, pollution and overcrowding (in areas). Who are you to presume that another country should get a free ride? A helping hand? YES. But free? No. That is the problem with the janjamen.
oh, and how is a gun 'good'? Other than a very effective way of enforcing your values upon others?
At least literacy never forces anyone to do anything - it is a tool. A gun is a weapon. Big difference.
there are already major problems with rogers here in canada - nothing official, but ask anyone with rogers internet, and they'll tell you that their connections are really flaky lately!
pseudo literacy is better than no literacy at all.
Technology helps people who want to learn. People who don't want to learn... well, they won't learn with OR without technology. Almost any tech aided project can lead to pseudo-learning instead of real learning, so don't get your panties in such a knot.
What you don't realize, is that it is a giant extra terrestrial plot designed to prevent you from receiving superpowers on your birthday. honest.

The american 'meltdown' is going to benefit people everywhere outside of america MUCH more than it is going to hurt people within the USA.
So why do you think it is going to be such a bad thing?
Thanks! You're the second person to suggest that, and I didn't realize it was possible before.
so yeah, thanks!

Are you actually agreeing with the original post? I thought your response was a disagreement. Maybe it was all a misunderstanding...
touché
I'm not american, ergo I'm not worried. I'll be benefiting from your recession. I think the word is Schadenfreude.
;)
But you guys have had it comin' for a long time - voting bush in for a second term was probably the straw that broke your economy
Also... it is pretty hard to compare a future, non-existant event to a past event you didn't experience. But hey, I'm just sayin'...
Yes! In some situations, BASIC is "better".
... So I'm waiting for an example.

DVD appeared to be pushed on us as well. But ... at least it had some merit to it!

OMG the whole meaning changes when you actually bother to read the comment! OMG!!!

yes, and I'm a quantum derivative trader using advanced neutonian physics and I do some speculative gold-mining venture capitalism.
er. what I mean is that I own mutual funds and buy gold on WoW. But the title sounds pretty.
You know what is easier? basic. Whether it be Q-basic, Watcom Basic or Woz's handcoded apple basic... it is much easier that COBOL too.
Does that make it better?
thanks. I guess that means i could use & # 2 3 3 ; too...or & e a c u t e ;

I remember when slashdot was full of smart people with a liberal philosophy, not a bunch douchebag flag waving capitalists.
... you 'remember'? or you 'think you remember'. There is a difference.
yes, with the [slashdot.org] proving that it is from ... well ... slashdot.

I'd like one, preferably with a large memory chip added, so I can combine all my fake passports into one.
Oh, and I'd like some fake passports.
thats how I'm doing it too... ' + e.
you really don't have a carrot top to blend.
