  1. Having higher speed limits for automated (ground) cars wold work too, at lower cost. You would want dedicated lanes, but that's doable.

    The fundamental problem with flying cars is human drivers. The risk of a bad driver putting his car into your lawn is acceptable, the risk of a bad driver putting his car into your upstairs kids bedroom is not.

    Civilian aid agencies can't afford to run it, and the military needs the money for the F35 and the Ford class gravy train.

  4. A nuclear reactor converts radiation into electricity. If you use fuel reprocessing to purify the spent fuel you can extract enough radiation that the waste product can be safely dumped into a landfill. Nuclear power is still not cost effective against anything else. There are only 3 reasons to build a nuclear reactor: 1-remote power (voyager, south pole), 2-portable power (sub, aircraft carrier), 3-nuclear weapons production.

    All cost is derived from human labour. No labour means everything is free to make. This means a few minutes uploading cat vids could be sufficient to pay the rent and buy food. Provided the AI doesn't evolve a desire to get paid for its work that is.

    The biggest problem with AI is the people calling the shots are the rich and powerful, and people don't get rich and powerful by having strong morals. Having sociopaths program our economy to further their goals is not in the best interest of society.

    I would suggest Microsoft Corporation has a "Working Business Relationship" with the US Government, that grants them more leeway in such matters.

    American companies are very good at "Creative Accounting" to make gorilla glass + enclosure make up 50% of the cost of the phone, thereby "Product of India" achieved. The latest Intel fab will use smaller geometries, so new fab needed. May as well get it out of "Ground Zero" of a China/Taiwan war at the same time. China is getting expensive, it's time to move.

    The purpose of building outside the USA is to lower costs. India is cheaper than China, they just lack the infrastructure required for this. If they can get Trump to pay for the infrastructure in India then it works. India, Indiana, it's an American state, right?

  13. Solar panels and wind turbines are cheaper than coal, why would you want to use fossil fuels? The only advantage of oil is portability.

    The secret to Democracy is trust. The people must trust the voting system to be the will of the people. If you can't prove to the people the system is trustworthy then Democracy won't work. A black box computer system is not provable.

    When your annual performance review is based upon how many people you turned away at the border, and you are not subject to oversight, then you get a lot of leeway on how you fill out the paperwork.

    Solar power is cheaper than coal during the day when people want the most power (no batteries needed), nuclear power is the most expensive power in common use (reactors only built to make weapons, thorium is much cheaper, fuel imported), wind is good (only in certain places, limited total capacity), people can't afford to let the "free market" plan the energy market as shortages and brownouts are good for business but bad for the country.

    Have a mandatory Constitutional review before they vote on a new law. If it fails then those who vote for it would be financially liable if the courts later overturn that law. The politicians can still vote as they want, if they are willing to take the financial risk.

  24. It's often called Communism when the government micro-manages the economy to achieve specific results. Note that most Americans wouldn't recognize Communism if it grabbed their wallet and gave it to poor people.

    Once solar power is cheaper than coal it won't matter, the utilities will pay to have the law changed just like the oil companies did.
