Bet you never thought you'd write a post about deer piss when you chose your sig, didya? :>

    Serendipity, how I love thee.

The population of Europe is probably greater than that of the US.

Err, yes, by 450 million people. Even just the EU has about 100 million more.

Anyway, even though the US is a bigger marketplace for MS, I doubt pulling out has even been considered for a single second.

Question: What would this mean for piracy? Can they still prosecute people for using windows in europe if they weren't to sell it here?

  3. Re:Warned? on Napster Users Being Arrested In Belgium · · Score: 1

What they did was log a bunch of IP addresses, then have the ISP's mail their clients with a form-email telling them to stop.

There have been several cases in Belgium where the ISP's have been held accountable for content published by their members if they couldn't show they actively discouraged and punished such content, so they really have little choice in the matter.

By their own accounts, the IFPI (RIAA counterpart) now has a search in place which can keep track of/log the entirety of Napster-using Belgium. They sounded quite smug about it, even ;) Nobody mentioned any of the alternative file-sharers, though. Apparently, the group of people who will be raided by the police now is the first batch of 100 out of 12,000 they have logged.

Anyway, if it is any comfort to anyone, the justice minister has already announced these sorts of prosecutions will get the lowest priority in the courts (even less than cannabis! :)).

  4. Not so great, actually on Review: 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' · · Score: 1

I saw it a couple of months ago (I'm in Europe), and I nor my friends really came away as wowed as we thought we would be.

Some parts were wonderful (the 'stealth' scenes, some of the fighting, the backdrops), but there wasn't really a lot *to* the movie. Quite a trivial story, a very subdued style of acting (even more so than is traditional, there are several long scenes where literally nothing moves apart from lower lips), and basically any added value whatsoever.

Still, some scenes you'll never forget, and that's probably more than you can say of most movies :)

Actually, most of the developers in Lionhead were recruited directly from Peter Molyneux's old stable at Bullfrog (who have nothing left to prove as a game studio).

I've seen software people get childishly excited over a whole lot less :) Besides, if you don't hype your game, you don't sell any copies. Can hardly blame them for it.
