You put so many ppl in prison for so many crap little offences,...
This is all a problem of metrics. PD are judged by how much they tickets, pursue or convicts people. Thus the low-hanging fruit which are not creating any problem are often preferred over getting down on tougher real harming crime... and heck... would you prefer to ticket/arrest an unarmed sheep, or a tough blood thirsty criminal who will shoot you if he has the occasion ?:-)
Your comment is just the same as saying: "Your freedom is conditional of you not being a murderer, please give us a sample of you DNA so we can be sure of that". Such fishing expedition is totally unacceptable without probable cause.
"Without Liberty, Law loses its nature and its name, and becomes oppression. Without Law, Liberty also loses its nature and its name, and becomes licentiousness."

All in all, it is all a matter of balance. In the US, the balance is awfully tipping on the oppression side.
What is a "naive" opinion ?
If you check the luggage, terrorist will find another way to scare you, and you will give up more of your freedom. TSA checkpoints are a show to make you feel safe while you're truly scared to death. The only rational way to answer a terror attack is not to change anything, continue living as if nothing happened.
You can easily imagine the feasibility of a remotely triggered IED. He did not go for concealability but for demonstration. You can easily think of a multiple attack vectors. During a night flight, people are more relaxed, you use the blow-gun to injure the pilot when he's going take a leak, then blow one or two grenade, while putting a luggage on fire and generate a few more small explosion. This is all about terror, you just need to frighten people, not kill them.
The problem is that as gas, lithium is a finite, and pretty rare resource... unless you create a fusion reactor which *produce* energy, in which case you may hope to walk up the element ladder and actually produce that lithium...
It would seem that Speedtest already has app for most major mobile players. What is so what is different about that one, beside the fact that all the result is centralized by the FCC (with the associated risks) ?
What is the difference between Obama printing money to fill his socialist dreams, and Maduro sending armed troopers in electronic stores to lower prices a gun point to give every venezuelian a cheap 50" TV set ?
There is already plenty of solutions on the market. You can get all the supplement/meal replacement you need for a healthy diet, INCLUDING VITAMIN D, from cod liver oil, from fitness stores. Soylent is mostly marketing based.
Did you pay attention on the context ?
This article is using temporary fire ban due to localized air quality issue to make a point as if it was ubiquitous and without limit... I'm sorry, but I am pro-freedom, but freedom in the US has become licentiousness. If every household of Seattle burn its Xmas tree, shit will happen. Freedom is no excuse for plain stupidity.
I recommend a 4 hour work day with same pay as the standard 80 hour work week.
No i sort of jest. You have to figure a few things. Management isn't rated on how well the code is written or how productive the people they're managing are...
I disagree.
My management used to be pretty lax, and we were productive. In the past year or so, they decided to put more management, including a daily "stand-up" meeting, (which used to take up to 1h30) more bogus release schedule and unattainable targets. No matter to say that my productivity declined exponentially. We went for an atmosphere where everybody was happy to an atmosphere where everybody is pissed (though not saying it). Finally, they got what they wanted. This is my last day in the company. All in all, I couldn't agree more to the quote saying that people don't leave bad company, they leave bad managers...

True. But at least in the US, I do have the Right to be presumed innocent.
Do you ? I thought Emperor Obama had already ruled over this...

Of course not... the EPA would have stepped in and prohibited use of your current battery.
It sounds awfully like the Soviet "quinquennial" plans :-/

The White House and its UK equivalent has unfortunately enough power to order Google to "forget" about this as well.

Because VICE is a US magazine, aimed at a mainly-US audience L

Then put this on camera, I did bookmarked Soylent to get some when they will ship international, but after the investigation, NO MORE. Damage done.
As you are, friend. I might as well make it worth it !

He most likely knows that he needs help, but he would never admit it.
Or just consider that you are an arrogant SOB.
This is pretty much called "being an independent consultant" !
I much prefer to work from home, provided I have a dedicated work area/machines.
Morality: software engineer must learn to say "no".

By "distraction" do you mean 3 group of people having right now conversation around me ? I hate openspaces...
When you crank out 100+h/week, you should probably ask yourself question about your life (or lack of thereof)...
