This is why Linux is never going to be a widely adopted desktop OS. What is E-Pants (for that matter, what is an Epplet? why not simply call them what they are, applets?) and what does it do? The names for some of the Epplets were straightforward, but E-Biff left me confused as well (at least it had a letter icon indicating that it might be an inbox monitor). This is even worse than KDE and GNOME beginning every application name with K and G respectively.
If you guys want Linux to be as widely used as Windows and OSX you have to standardize. One (visible) desktop manager and a standard set of applications. Leave all the tweaking in a nice graphical environment instead of forcing the user to edit text files, and for heaven's sake make the preferences screen for each application at least slightly similar and in the same location. It doesn't help when the prefs for FireFox are in a different menu location for Windows than for Linux or OSX.
Eye Candy is all well and good, but unless there is a solid and unified environment behind it (like Windows and OSX) Linux is never going to go anywhere on the desktop. Present a true alternative to those two OS and the PC manufacturers will take notice.
I go to the support section of their site and it says that "while Blue Burst may run on laptops it is not supported," or whatever. Oh well, they may have just lost themselves a potentially paying customer.
Is there any comparison between this and Suse 9.3 (which seems to be the current best ditro for laptops)? I need something for my new Toshiba M40 and am thinking of picking up Suse 9.3 when I'm down in San Francisco seeing as Fedora takes so long between releases...
Doesn't that line of reasoning assume that OO.org 2.x will have useable import and export filters? I have yet to see any competing office app that will even useably import or export any Microsoft Office format.
So how long before someone changes the source

Are you trying to troll me or what? I'm talking desktops here! Who in their right mind would run Apache on Windows XP? It's simply too unstable. And who would right a virus for an Apache server (most likely running Linux) when they could easily control and army of Windows boxes that dwarfs the number of Unix boxes by a mile.
The only reason there aren't more viruses and malware written for Linux is that it doesn't have the market penetration of Windows. In the case of viruses the writers want the fame that comes with having done a ton of damage. In the case of malware companies there just isn't the market to make any money with software for Linux. Once Linux begins to be even a remote threat you'll know it based on the increase in viruses and malware written for it as a desktop platform. Until that point Linux on the desktop is just a ridiculous liberal myth.
Zonk: It's spelled "overhaul" not "overhall." Get on top of things. You're supposed to be an editor, and yet I, a simple programmer, have a better grasp of the English language than you do.
I can't say I'll miss them. What games did they make? Most of them (and they were very few) were very buggy. It was a shame to see some of that very talented Fallout team releasing buggy games, but I guess if that's all you're capable of, the success of a title like Fallout can blind you into thinking that you're better than you are.
One of the other Hillary Clintons would not have set up a link farm specifically for the purpose of making money off of the name of the ex-first lady.
You geeks may be able to set up a prototype database for the purposes of resume tracking for your employer in no time flat and yet you completely miss out on simple facts like what I typed above.

The point of wording it the way I was to suggest that his interpretation was subjective. I know a lot of people that liked Troy and that think that Hemos' favourite movie sucked donkey balls.
In what way did Troy suck any less than your favourite movie of all time? What makes your favourite movie your favourite movie? What have you done to encourage a discussion here by posting such a flamebait comment?
Except that Wine (Cedega) serves to insure that any Linux game (whether a port or one released natively) is competing directly against every other Windows game released.
Wine is killing any chance for (native or ported) Linux games.
That comment is like asking me to compare KDE 3.4.1 to KDE 1. Things are going to be drastically different.

An Nvidia GeForce Go 6600 isn't a proper graphics controller? It rund UT2K4 and Half Life 2 very well.
It's really sad when the trolls start to visit the non-front page sections of slashdot.

I fail to see how a bunch of dorks raising money to save their favourite show is controversial?
Scratch that. All is now well in the world of Add/Remove programs.
So what else did they fix?
All installing 1.0.3 did for me was leave 1.0.2 as the removable option. This hasn't really fixed anything it seems.

Next to KDE 3.4 this is my favourite Window Manager of all time. And it doesn't have all the hideous widgets from Gtk based WMs. They sure are ugly.

It looks like they fixed it. I apologize to all involved for my harsh words and for a post that was missing words and a closing tag.

Do you have any evidence for the number of games being ported to/being released for Linux increasing despite Wine?
