PC gaming is alive and well. Most people tend to think of action games on high end gaming PC's when they think of gamers. There are several million passive gamers - mostly women who spend 20 mins a day playing games on PC's. They download games on to their PC's and even buy games in the range of $10-$20. There a several such games that appeal to women. With the move towards making games free and having users purchase up levels and game related items, we will see far more people getting into PC gaming simply because PC's are there and the games are cheaper and there are far more passive gamers than active gamers.
For the serious gamer, the high end PC platforms are almost as good as console. I guess the main issue at the high end is the cost since the total cost of ownership of a console is probably far less than a high end gaming PC?
