Where does this guy just happen upon a meteorite to carve his knives out of. I'm guessing most of these are made out of some basaltic volcanic rock or something not a genuine meteor. I mean come on where's he going to get his hands on one of these things? swipe it out of a NSF laboratory... I don't think so.

You make an excellent point. Your right break them up into competing companies. The question is , how long would it take for one of these offshoots to take control and regain a monopoly similar to the one now?
Nathaniel P. Wilkerson NPS Internet Solutions, LLC www.npsis.com
All it takes is the first few lines of this document and you can clearly see it is the usual Microsoft BS they are trying to shove down DOJ throats not to mention everyone else. Die, Microsoft, DIE!...
Nathaniel P. Wilkerson NPS Internet Solutions, LLC www.npsis.com
I know we all hate to see Microsoft go but the breaking of a monopoly is actually good for us since it rejuvenates competition. Take a look at what has happened in the domain name business with the breakup of the Network Solution monopoly, prices have dropped dramatically and companies are now offering more and more services with registrations all at a better price. I say nothing but good can come of breaking up Microsoft.
It won't hurt Microsoft that bad, I mean do you really think the breakup of Microsoft is going to make Windows go away? Of course not. There is still too much money to be made.
If I was the DOJ I would be severe as I possible could since Gates and Microsoft are known to be hard hitters and even with a breakup they will still fight their hardest to maintain the monopoly they have now. They'll go down kicking and screaming, you can count on it...

People are going to stick with the conventional mouse... why?
Well because, think about it. If this mouse responds to taps and other sleight of hand then the device is going to be nearly impossible to control with any certainty. It will be very easy to accidentally tap the mouse or jerk it and have it interpret the interaction incorrectly. Sometimes less is more when it comes to interfacing with us humans.
You don't agree? Then take a look at the current trend in airplane cockpits... Give me that old two button mouse any day, and not the stupid trackball type either.

Does anyone even consider the blatant violation of copyright laws piracy anymore??
I was shocked to read in fairly mainstream publications like PC magazine big names like John Dvorak actually in support of the MP3 movement.
As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with the technology or the format it is just the way in which people are using it. It is scary to see that the MP3 "thing" is starting to become mainstream. Even my computer illiterate friends know what "Napster" is. The question is where will this all end.
I hope it doesn't mean the death of quality music since it is monetary gain which drives many of these musicians to go to the great lengths they do to create the popular songs we love. I'm afraid in a few years all we will be left with are a bunch of underground grunge bands producing trashy music. Maybe, I'm too pessimistic, but maybe I'm right...

OS/2 was admittably a better OS than Windows. However, besides its frequent and unexpected crashes Windows has dominated the market. The reason behind the fall of OS/2 was not its incompetence but the weakness of the IBM sales staff. I've worked at IBM and I know. IBM is a great company when it comes to research and development. I mean look at all the innovations that have come out of the Almaden Lab alone (copper interconnects, Microdrive, load-unload, data mining etc...). Every year more patents are filed by IBM than any other high tech company. The problem is when it comes to competing on the "competitive" market, IBM is lacking. Maybe their image is all wrong, I don't know what. All I know is their ultra star hard drives are great. That is the problem though they have great technology but no flashy image, and unfortunately that is what you need to sell to the average consumer. IBM and OS/2 were both robbed by Microsoft but I won't shed a tear over this. As far as I'm concerned it's business. If any other company could come along and tear Microsoft to pieces it would, that is how our system works, pure capitalism. I personally feel that we should bury OS/2 and call it good. Besides when you compare OS/2 to current operating systems it just doesn't cut it any more. I think the future of operating systems will be with the high end Unix clones like FreeBSD, and OpenBSD. Linux doesn't scale well enough, at least not yet. OS/2 is dead, get over it.

Who is actually going to read this code anyhow. I mean if there are millions of lines of code no one could forseeably actually make sense out of this big "Microsoft Mess". I think I'll leave the Windows source code alone, I have better things to do then to spend countless hours trying to make sense out of a overly bloated code base like Windows.

"According to the February 1998 suit filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court, IBM maintained an internal "corporate mortality file," a database detailing the deaths of more than 25,000 IBM workers nationwide. Of 10,331 employees who died between 1975 and 1989, 149 died of primary brain cancer, the lawsuit states, citing a 1995 study sponsored in part by the company. That's 10 brain cancer deaths a year at IBM, a startlingly high number for such a rare disease."

Actually the earth is loosing more weight than it is gaining. Due to the constant solar wind being blasted out from the sun and small but significant portion of our atmosphere is being carried into deep space. Of course its nothing to be alarmed at since it would take over 10 billion years for us to noticably measure the difference. Anyhow its not worth losing any sleep over, which brings up the other question... why the heck am I even typing this reply when it is already 2:02AM in the morning. Good night/.ers I'm off to bed.
