It's not mandatory, and it used to be a lot more common, but a lot of truckers often had co-drivers... One would sleep in the cabin while the other would drive. I spend a lot of time on the interstate and I'd say about 1 in 6 of the trucks I pass have a passenger. Now granted, they may be hitchikers, wives, etc... And yeah, it's not exactly safe for me to be looking up into trucks as I pass on the wrong side.
Grow up. We're not arguing if it IS illegal. We're debating if it should be. Currently it IS illegal, your friend knew it, he got busted. Sorry about his experience, that punishment doesn't fit the crime and it's unfortunate. I chose not to do drugs. I knew they were illegal. I knew they'd make me loose self control. As a result I didn't go to jail.
We live in a society were people have to make rules that are for the general good of the society. The Majority would rather be safe even if it denies the minority the right to get high. If you don't like it, run for goverment and see how many people vote for your anarchist views. Or you can move to mexico. I don't think they'll have a problem with drug use there.
All good points. I've always pondered where the line should be drawn. I think something like GHB or PCP should obviously be illegal, but then you get into lesser drugs, and down to Marajuana, then Alcohol, Nicotine, Caffine, High Fructose Corn Syrup! Yeah, there's a line to draw somewhere and no, we're not going to get people to agree on where it should be.
it's not my place to tell him what he can and can't do TO HIMSELF
I think the problem here is what people do to others when they're so high they're out of control and then they hurt other people. I'd also argue that drugs breed crime. Crime which is usually perpetrated against people who are NOT the ones doing drugs.
If they all used in isolation so others wouldn't be hurt, and drugs were given away freely so they wouldn't breed crime... then it won't hurt anyone else, so let them use.
it's not my place to force him to live as I wish.
If society didn't force people to live up to a certain standard we'd be living in anarchy. This may or may not be your desire.
I don't think there's enough info to even answer this one. I think the answer is entirely dependant on the importance of the program you put out. If you write rules for DoD firwalls, then you should be measuring in hours or minutes. If you write screensavers to put on OLPC... You have a little more time. And there's the inbetween, like if you write the algorithm that counts how many M&M's go into each bag.
They talked them into releasing it so it would distract us from Linux. Don't fall for it! Don't spend time porting it! Don't even read the code because they probably planted bugs that are so advanced that just 'more sourcefile.c' would infect you and overwrite your bios and install Anna K pr0n!!!
Can someone let me know when they get the damn Mic fixed? We're living in a multimedia age, there's just no excuse for this half ass attempt at entertainment.
Stereo at a minimum, preferably 7.1 THX Dolby noise reduction AC3 FLAC Lossless Acustimass full dynamic range phonographed...
I'm hoping that they didn't have the bandwidth for the audio too and they'll upload that when they get back with the tapes. I hope it's on DAT, the only true way to record.
Damn, you take things quite literal. I hereby amend my original statement. For everyone reading my original post, replace "product" with "part of a product". And to clarify further, I'm speaking specifically about the removal of ATI's chips from whatever product they were removed from. Geeze.
And to further clarify things, I was poking fun at Jobs and his tendency to overreact when someone steals the wind from his sales. Please refrain from modding my statements that are loosely based on reality as Informative. And if my above amendment STILL doesn't get it right, can someone (LKM) PLEASE correct it so those who are using slashdot as a source of reliable information can get an accurate representation of the events that actually occurred.
And btw, there's no way you can POSSIBLY know that "No product was "nixed" because ATI leaked infos about Apple."[SIC] You can't make that statement. There could have been an apple car that some ATI guy told his dog about, jobs found out, and nixed it! HA! Here I'll correct you now: "No product that I know of was "nixed" because ATI leaked infos about Apple."[SIC]
Unfortunatly, ASUS will now suffer the Wrath of Jobs. This won't be the first time Jobs nixed a product because some dumbass at the company making it spilled the beans. Someone refresh my memory, when was the last time this happened? Was it the ZFS debacle? I think it happened before that with some hardware once as well...
Thanks to this anonymous poster, we'll never see the rumored Apple Tablet. Thanks
Unfortunatly I was wrong, and they are still LED. I classified them as LCD due to the ability o create numbers like a digital watch. Apparently the fact that they EMIT LIGHT wasn't enough to convience me that they were made from LED. Add that to the fact I thought LED's were very rare back then.
You two and your green/red LCD's. I've seen Green CRT's, and Amber CRT's... And Green, Red, and Even BLUE LED's. But've never seen a green or red LCD.
Actually, that's wrong. The original HP calc had a red LCD, and that damn bright alarm clock of mine that I put a shirt over every night has a green LCD.
Shit, I'm even wronger, I'm looking at my Dell 2850 server over there and it has a BLUE LCD scrolling the name of the machien back and forth. Nevermind.
Have you tried the site? I just did. Frankly, I'm supprised anyone got to the download. It looks like the thing is a big flash background overlaid with images for EVERYTHING instead of text... problem is, on any given page, only half of the images load for me, and a different half each time. The interface seems extremely simple, but when half the images just show the red X, it's useless.
I just TRIED to make an offer on the CD and the experience was a complete failure.
Start at http://www.inrainbows.com/Store/index2.html and click around. Maybe those images are just having a hard time getting across the pond... I get the same results at work and home.
Hmm, if they'd say no ILLEGAL imigrants, instead of no darkies, I'd move there. Oh, and anyone who comes first, then asks to stay is illegal. Apply first, then you're accepted, and we're golden.
They should survey upon sale what OS the customer intends to install on the machines. I've bought a number of machines from them in the last few months, ordered with no OS and put CentOS on it. I'm sure the deb folks are doing the same. I'd venture to say a LOT more of the linux users are ordering a server and putting a legal copy of linux on them as opposed to windows users putting legal copies of windows. Illegal copies of either OS shouldn't count.
Over twelve hundred distressed calls to 911 service occured around the same time. A common thread is that they were all geeks screaming something about geocaching, their GPS isn't working and they are LOST!
I love putty. It's great. There's also a companion program called putty knife that you can put in your quick launch. When you hit it, a list of all your saved connections pops up. Very sweet combo. Combine this with shared keys and such and I'm two clicks away from a terminal on any server I have access to.
we do, it's called spike.

Someone did refresh my memory, and it was ATI. And this wouldn't have been the first time.
Anyway, I was going for +5 funny, not +5 insightful, but hey, take what you can get!

Don't forget one I use frequently: http://www.php.net/patentssuck/
Well, actually MEANT LCD. Ala http://www.phys.uwosh.edu/mike/calcs/hp-35.html

They aren't giving the option so thry can track what you're going to install. It's where you choose what you want to buy and have them install.
hmm, good point. I'd love to see some real numbers then.
They should survey upon sale what OS the customer intends to install on the machines. I've bought a number of machines from them in the last few months, ordered with no OS and put CentOS on it. I'd venture a guess at 80/20.
Amen brother!
What was the URL back then, I want to check it out on archive.org...
And I though my 4 digit UID was impressive, all hail your 3 Digit one.
Unless you use mind controll, then it's unethical.
He said sex. He's not really one of us! Or he's lying about the sex part ;)
