Of course creating quality content costs money, and people should be rewarded for the effort they do. However, that just isn't enough.
I personally block ads because 90% of them are Flash-ads which slows my computer down quite a bit, most of them are really distracting and annoy me when I try to read the content at hand, and heck, some of them even include sound! If the ads weren't Flash, distracting and even downright annoying I wouldn't mind.
But well, there's an even more important reason to block ads: viruses and malware. It's well known nowadays that ads often carry unwanted stuff with them and as such having ads enabled is just a huge security risk.
I was wondering about this whole thing...If LHC indeed did suddenly pop out a supermassive black hole that swallowed the whole planet then who would there be left to complain? A black hole would disintegrate us so fast that we wouldn't even have time to feel pain, and once the whole planet is gone then there is no one left to give a flying f..
Oh well, atleast I don't honestly care if LHC works or if we all die due to a black hole. Mankind has never been anything more than a disease on the surface of Earth. We have destroyed dozens of species completely, we have ruined half the planet to a state of not-reparable..so the next logical step is to get rid of Earth completely.
That Ari Jaaksi sure talks alot but he never says anything. He just babbles open-source developers and community should be taught yet he doesn't say how or why, he didn't answer the reason why they need closed devices and so forth..Well sure, they want closed devices, DRM and all that so they can control people and milk even more money from them. But that is exactly what most of the open-source community is strongly against!
Me, I have never bought a SIM-locked phone, I don't buy drmed music nor would I buy DVDs if I couldn't back them up. If they come up with some new format for audio or video files and then DRM makes it impossible for me to back up those files or use them in other devices I own then I'll steer clear from those formats in the future. Most likely I'd start avoiding Nokia, too.
I just absolutely felt compelled to send email to MediaDefender, I so much hate MPAA/RIAA using illegal tactics. So, anyway, here is the email I sent them:
Hi there!
I just wanted to congratulate you on your brilliant stunt of a highly illegal DOS (Denial of service) attack on Revision3. Perhaps you should have checked earlier that they were seeding their own legal products? Then again, DOS attacks are illegal even against illegal trackers so this could be a bit unfortunate for you. If FBI can link you to DOS attacks on other trackers then you could face serious legal issues. So, I just want to congratulate you once more, this was such a brilliant move by you and I hope you'll do something equally stupid again in the near future!;)
Yours truly,
-Nita
Hmm, does anyone happen to know when was the patent filed? If it any younger than 20 years then it has no legal standing at all. Patents are enforceable only if the technique presented in the patent has not been used before which doesn't apply here. Search engines have returned image searches as thumbnails for years and years. So, good luck with this one!
One thing to note however; I do wish people would already start to understand how bad software patents are. They are the exact thing that is causing greedy companies like this one to try to extort money from others!
"The findings suggest that either high or low arousal is key to creativity."
No shit? When I am highly aroused I get very creative; I tend to vividly fantasize about some hot guy (or several) and me;P
I don't "hate" Vista, I just dislike it. For several reasons, too. For example, Vista is stuffed with all this DRM stuff and if I am watching DRM enabled video I'll need a monitor and graphics card which both support protected video path or it'll downgrade the video quality. IMHO that's pretty fucked up. If I have bought a movie then of course I should be allowed to watch it at optimal quality settings too no matter what monitor (and connector) I am using:O So, generally, I hate the attitude "protect media from users" rather than "provide users with the best you can give them".
Second thing I dislike about Vista...is that I don't have a single computer it'd run sufficiently well on. XP runs just fine on all of them, and so does Linux even though Linux does give me all the desktop bling, search and such that are the features that Vista is touted for. In essence: Vista requires much better hardware to run as well as either Linux or XP on my current hardware. And if I buy a new computer then I rather use the extra power it gives me to run the applications or games rather than the OS.
I seriously can't see a single upside in moving any of my computers to Vista. It doesn't provide any new feature that I can't already have with XP or Linux, and they even require less powerful hardware.
Seriously though, it's an incredibly overcrowded market - if you have an idea on something new or innovative to offer, then by all means go for it. But as they say, there's nothing new under the sun, and you'd have much better luck trying to compete within a market that isn't so overcrowded. Very true. There exists about a gazillion different website hosting services, some even offer to do it for free if the site is static. I've seen some offer like 15e per year with full SSH access, PHP and such. So I just wonder what does the OP think he can offer that someone else doesn't already, and for a cheaper price?
Yeah, I openly call scientology a cult and something I have no wish to have anything to do with it. I just am glad I live in Finland, I can not be sued for calling a cult a cult ^^
Seriously though, this is starting to get really unnerving:O A 15 year old getting sued for such a thing? Geesh!
