If this (or a language this simple, yet powerful) were available on Linux, it would do more good than any other single act, in terms of increasing awareness and use of this OS.
I dont really want to pay for stuff where the people providing the info dont get paid. If I`m not getting paid for posts to discussion boards, then it follows that i`m not going to pay to read other peoples posts.
Usenet is more useful than most companies (that i`ve dealt with) helpdesks/support lines. If you can use a search engine, its pretty quick and easy. If that system is free, then people are hardly going to pay for a sprinkling of info among the sporks and beowolf clusters and goats...
Plus the cat is out of the bag now - anyone can go and get Slashcode or Scoop and stick it on a server and voila - another free site.

But then you`ll be breaking your court order and you`ll go straight to jail!:)
Yeah, we went through all this crap with the 68000 from Megadrives and Amigas; worrying about whether Iraq would get them. Pretty funny, seeing as they got everything else from the west. Who does this stuff fool?
Sounds like a silly test to me - why bother? If it can survive `normal use` (folding, moderate weights, temperature etc), its ok. If not, take it to the bank and get it changed.
Anyway, back to the subject of chips - sounds like a few seconds in a microwave should remove any `protection` they add.
Yeah, amusing how the Church in the UK grumbles on about gambling being evil, but uses its money in futures and other speculative markets.
Then again, theres no point in being religious if you cant be a little hypocritical.
The error message that the Napster server gives you is: "::: server / You must upgrade your client at http://www.napster.com::: error / You must upgrade your client at http://www.napster.com"
On One-2-One (in the UK!) its 10p for an SMS (5p it its to someone on the same network).
It costs 2p for a one minute, national, off peak call.
So its `R U about dood` or a 5 min call, for the same price. Tricky choice... (Having said that, sms is cool when you are standing next to someone but cant hear them, like in a Club, Carnival etc).
I thought SMS was cheaper too, but its not.I have no idea why they are so expensive.
(I guess someone has to pay for the gillions of pounds wasted on next generation phones, which just isnt going to happen. Unless you can think of where to put up another 5 times as many relays (nowhere near schools, hospitals etc) Anyone have any ideas how they`re going to get their money back?Massive cost-of-call price rise, anyone?)
Yeah, its got 1997 all over it,but i`ve never heard of it.
Also, the suggestion :

U2 members are encouraged to require signed contracts or deposits from
their users before allowing posting access to U2, with actual monetary
penalties for violating the terms of the contract.

sounds pretty funny! Like i`m going to pay for the honour of sending an email to a server!

I think cnn is obfuscating the truth there (and not for the first time).
Actually, its the wrappers which some tea bags come in. They are sort of silvery plastic, and can be used to look through, a little like using a compact disk.
It was my understanding that it was the cheapest way to watch without going blind - not sure why the police are stealing them - perhaps they want their cut?
If the news is anything to go by, they`ll have their work cut out for them, stopping all the looting and panic when it all goes dark. Apparantly there are several cults located in Africa which predict the end of the world whenever this sort of thing happens.
A good day to stay indoors?
You said the same thing 3 times, using different words. Are you a journalist?

Seconded!!!
"Those nutty Germans! Always with the lots of words, when a single word would do!"
German has a lot of long words which translate into multiple small words in English!

yeah, i played on one too. It was that, or an Atari 2600! Guess!
I like some vector games (rip off, asteroids), but not because they were vector games.
..we`ll be speaking to the manager of the Amiga port of Judge Dredd. Just how DID he go about getting those 16 colour ST sprites touched up.
"Of course, you saw how popular the US$1 coins have been :-) "
Pretend i`m English, and dont know what you`re talking about! (Didnt think you had them...or are you joking?)
have you seen a vectrex? I did, when they were first launched. They were a joke then, and they are a joke now.

Just after that bit,we see Zaphod after the Total Perspective Vortex. I always thought that was a metaphor for LSD!
Me too!

I believe you may have typed `amusing` where you meant to say `accurate`.
1) it's cheaper than the voice call

"What ever happened to the "Computer monitors emit UV and cause cancer" scare back in the early 90's"
Not sure, but those LCD screens are getting cheaper and cheaper...
Strange. Hemp is grown all over Europe, legally. I`d imagine if that were true there`d be very many phone calls!
Do you talk to yourself too? :)
I read the article and i cant find the bit where he explains what he means about it being like Pacman. Any ideas?
