Obviusly, the Chinese aren't completely sure it's a good idea either... Otherwise, why would they do it in Tibet instead of their... umm... "mainland"?
I wonder what international "free Tibet" movement will say to this.
Well, great.
Anyone remember the Pentium III, Pentium II and the Pentium without a number? The all were discovered to have some bug after they were launched.
Is it just me or could we jolly well wait a bit longer (I mean EVEN longer) for yet another faster processor to spend money on and then be sure we get one that's not been thrown onto the market in a hurry?
While it may be true that Linux was not designed for a GUI, I actually think that's one of it's advantages. GUIs are usually very resource-hungry, and my server, which has it's monitor turned off for 99% of the time, doesn't need any pretty pictures to use up it's memory. There's also the issue of stability. And if that's not enough: Linux users can choose whether or not to have a GUI.
You're entirely right about this, of course. I will think twice before spending a cent on sony too in the future.
My question is: Do they care? Haven't they anticipated this? I think the largest part of their revenue comes from the non-geek word who either don't know what Napster, Gnutella and file sharing in general are all about, or who believe everything the non-geek-media feed them, and therefore think that Napster et al is only used by illegal d00dz. What do you think, are we a significant figure in Sony's accounts or not?
(Should have pressed the bloody preview button, I know...)
Great! Just what I've been looking for! I already downloaded a case of Windows99 Beer from some Beerz-site. But: Can anybody tell me where I can download a bottle-opener?
Innovation: reminds me that the iMac was voted most innovative product of 1999, when we had the same thing eons ago (CP/M or whatever the predecessor of the commodore VIC20 was called) Innovative, yeah right...
I agree, but I think the idea should not be tossed aside nevertheless. I can imagine that the notion of computing we have today (big boxes sitting near desks) could be effectively combined with the paper computer. One quick idea I just had is custom toolboxes for different apps. Imagine having, say, photoshop open, the screen showing just the document you're working on, all the toolbars lying next to the keyboard... and when you're done, you put them back into the folder with the others....just a thought...
I think that'll be difficult. After all, you could then go and sue all people who name music reviews after the album they're reviewing...
...oops... didn't want to give anybody any ideas!
And of course, anybody posting anonymously on /. must be a communist...

But wouldn't that then make the new model the Pentium 3.9999999999999998 ?
