You forgot one slightly important fact in your argument - it's us Canadians that are paying the tax, so why shouldn't the money go to Canadian artists?
Much as I despise Brian Adams, I'd still rather pay him than N'Stink.
I don't agree with the tax at all (especially the fact that the vast majority of CD-R use is most likely for data storage), but if I have to pay that tax, there's no way in hell that I'm sending that money back to the U.S.A.
Canadians artists have a hard enough time making it into the charts as it is (we have to compete against the same mainstream crap your indie labels do - and then some).
When Commodore went bust, a company called Amiga Technologies bought the rights to the Amiga line.
Out of the ashes came a prototype called Walker. The best description I could find for it is:
Q: What is the trick with the 'Walker' case?
A: In the base version, it consists of a bottom and a top part. The bottom part takes the mainboard and diverse connectors. The top part contains the drives, mainly the CD-ROM. In between, you can put a middle part. A daughterboard plugs into the expansion connector of the mainboard and carries standard CPU and/or Zorro and/or Video and/or PCI slots or whatever else will be created. Many different types of daughterboards can be envisioned, for example only with PCI slots or with one CPU slot and two combined Zorro/Video slots. Depending on the daughterboard, the middle part can be of varying heights, all the way up to a full tower.
A JPG of the prototype can be found here, and an.lha archive with more pictures can be found here.
The first computer I ever owned was a C64 that I conned my mom into buying when I was 5. We spent the first week learning how to program BASIC on it (the old bouncing ball program I'm sure many people remember). Having my mom teach me how to write my first program made it a lot of fun.
Six months later I was teaching her how to write programs, but she was still involved, which I think was the important part, the fact that we both were learning together.
After that I scaled up to Pascal (and Modula-2), which in this day and age may be a dated language, but I thought it was great to learn on.
Another way to go (depending on their age), is a free Win32 application called MSWLogo. It's an excellent modernized version of the timeless LOGO language, and they've added some really neat features (animated.gif export, 3D shading, etc). You can grab it for free from http://www.softronix.com.
Please think before opening your yap. Us redneck Albertans don't want privatized health care any more than you self-centred eastern Canadians, however with Red-Nosed-Ralph in charge we don't have much choice in the matter.
It's a pity that the most epic science fiction novels ever written have been given such horrible treatment.
What I mean by this is the fact that I went out and bought the new reprinting of Dune (black cover) and was really bothered by the binding job.
I'm not sure if it's just my copy, or if Ace Publishing really screwed the pooch on this one, but they didn't leave enough of a margin on the page, so you have to open the book up fairly far to be able to read the text close to the binding.
Just a warning, if you can find an older printing of the book, buy that. The new printing really bothered me a lot (it's a good thing I've read the book 10+ times already, so it doesn't affect my enjoyment too much).
Can someone please explain the submission process on Slashdot? I submitted this article 6 hours before it was posted, it got rejected almost immediately, and yet the article itself didn't get posted for another 6 hours.
I'm not sure why if an article can get rejected almost immediately, it takes takes that long to actually post one.
(I know this is off-topic, but I'm sure a lot of other submitters have wondered similar things themselves).
UltraVNC has been able to do this for quite a while.

For the really curious, you can find an FAQ here.
Unfortunately, Amiga Technologies sold out to Gateway before it could be released.
Fortunately, Gateway then sold out to the new (and hopefully here for good) Amiga, Inc.
I Agree with you 100%

I purchased a copy of Borland C++ 4.0 Pro, and it has the same wording and restrictions, so I don't think that's the case.
I would like to believe that the wording has simply been misinterpreted.
