  1. Re:Please someone explain on AMD's Triple-Core Phenom X3 Processor Launched · · Score: 2, Informative

The 3-core AMD CPU works perfectly well under any load. That's not what TechReport says:

Three cores is weird There, I've said it. You know you were thinking it. We're modern folks, open to many possibilities in life, including this one. But three cores is just plain weird. You will need to know this before making the decision to drop a Phenom X3 into your own computer. Dude. Three. This weirdness manifests itself in several ways. Although many of the applications we use for CPU testing had no trouble recognizing the X3's triple cores and putting them to good use, some did. Several SiSoft Sandra modules lost bladder control when asked to quantify the performance of a tri-core processor and simply refused to run. Microsoft's Windows Media Encoder pegged the X3 at 67% utilization and would go no further; two cores were all it would use. Even the 32-bit versions of Windows Vista apparently have trouble recognizing odd numbers of CPU cores. Already, updates are becoming available to fix some of these problems, but owners of Phenom X3s are bound to run into such issues over the next little while as software developers adjust to unconventional core counts. Emphasis added.

Yes it is. That $18 billion will dry up fast once as they bleed money trying to fight for a single digit market share. Sony and Microsoft can run at losses for a long time to bleed Apple of money and force them to leave flee the gaming market again.

You see Apple is already kicking Sony Erricson's Really? Sony Ericsson not only has a bigger marketshare, faster growth, but it's revenue surpasses the revenues of all of Apple's divisions combined. Yep, that's some major asskicking.

and Microsoft's ass in handhelds. It's not hard to beat someone in market share when you've had more than a decades head start.

Around here it sure seems like Google gets a free pass on everything and can do no wrong... Then you must not read much of the responses in Google threads. They get bashed all the time for their "privacy" policy among other things.

If this had even limited cross-platform support, or an open-API I'd imagine it could go pretty far. Did you miss the part where it's a Microsoft product?

Ahh, so you're one of those diehard "Iraq did 9/11" loonies, are you? Makes total sense now.

I hate to state the obvious, but is anyone actually surprised by this? Considering how they were willing to sell the public a whole pack of lies about the war during the buildup I would be more surprised has they not been influencing the stuff these analysts were saying. I think we all remember this absurd statement.

Well, I don't think it's likely to unfold that way, Tim, because I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators. I've talked with a lot of Iraqis in the last several months myself, had them to the White House....The read we get on the people of Iraq is there is no question but what they want to get rid of Saddam Hussein and they will welcome as liberators the United States when we come to do that.
