The WAP is a commercial issue, it's all new: it's a new protocol, a new language, etc... Why aren't mobile-phone makers implementing a simple text-oriented web broswer on their phones (or on palm-tops)? The html could be used to describe pages and the http protocol could be used to look at those pages. It could even be possible to generate pages for the mobile users automatically from regular internet pages and not rewrite them. That would save everybody time and money. And mobile phone operators would only have to grant acess to the internet to their users.
I'm belgian and speaks french, that's why i think i can contribute to this discussion. I'm not quite sure what kind of help Rob requested on the home page but if it's about the content of the yahoo quebec site here is my point:
The site is quite rude, using racist and "non-politically correct" terms to point to countries and topics. This is a kind of humor usual in europe (specially belgium - see "man bites dog") and i LOVE it. It's not to be taken seriously and people should not be offended by those jokes. The search engine was pointing to a XXX search engine; this should be why yahoo is upset. As a result of their actions the search engine now links to the Vatican's search engine (small country in Roma where the pope lives). It looks like the lawyers that wrote the cease and desist letter did a lot of mistakes in the letter: the name of the recipient is false and that recipient is not the one that did the site, etc...
At the bottom of the site they say it's an experience to see if yahoo was going to react like others (link to a scientology article in english) did before. they say it took 70 days from the lauching of the site to the cease and desist letter and do not comment on that lenght.
There is also a second page with more links and no search engines.
They also insist about the differences between france-french and quebec-french which is a great joke subject in french speaking countries in europe (they include a link to yahoo france on quebec. Looks to me like a revenge.
Conclusion: Yahoo is upset cause of the racist and sexual content of the site. They did not a lot of research on who operated the site and the guys react quick.
US labelling system is as bad as EU labelling system. We really have an issue here. I have a better knowledge of labelling food when it comes to allergies prevention: Even traces of substance can cause an allergy, and producers tend to ignore it. If an device was used with, say, arachid oil and then with another oil, traces of arachid oil could appear in the new product. So people should be warned of that fact by labelling the product with a "may contain traces of arachid oil" unless the device was well cleaned. If you ask industries to do so, you'll have to be cautious about the fact that they could tend to ALWAYS put such an advice on their product labels. So they can be sure they won't get sued if you get sick or die. But by doing this they would spoil the entire process of prevention cause every label warning you if exactly as if no label was warning you.
I think the same problem raises with GM and unless you want a "may contain GM food" on every label you have to ensure a tracability of food on the whole chain and give special quality labels to food not containing any such GM stuff.
I personally live in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) a city build from scratch 25 years ago. This town is nearly all property of the University even if more and more normal (non-student) people tend to live here. As a geek I enjoy my Cable connection (3Mbit/s) at US$30 a month connected to the PC provided free of charge by the housing project. The crowd of geeks and science guys and girls near at hand makes me feel like I'm living in an encyclopedia and that feels good. Anyway I think I'll move, when finished with my studies, to a place with more expensive connection, more expensive housing, and much like a real town. Build-from scratch towns don't make you feel good in the long run, there is always something missing and it aint easy changing it. But the way to attract geeks is indeed to provide cheap high speed connection, some high quality art-places (playhouses, theatres,...), a good library, and some high-tech jobs. As for the jobs, your town could be the first Open-source Valley with a townhall funding open source projects, and other closed-source companies could take profit from interaction with those project.

In the old version of their doc they were telling you to go DOS before striking fdisk /mbr.
Looks like MS doesn't remember doing it...
