I believe this is similar to the Y2K problem in computers (I am admittedly not an expert), the fix for which delays another event until 2038. That bug isn't about bad programmers, it's about programmers using a register size that seemed reasonable and worked within the limits of the hardware they had at the time.
What about used DVDs, used Cars, used Houses.
What about when I resell my 'crap that I'm tired of storing in my closet' at a yard sale?
Let's just make sure everyone gets their 10%, whether its a legitimate sale or just superfulously related to them.
This rant has probably been posted before, who do I owe the 10% to?
Send a large collection rocket, collect all the 'historic' equipment and move on. Jeez you don't see a cordoned off area at a beach somewhere with a plaque proclaiming "Spot where amphibians first stepped on land."
Trust me, the phrase "I'm stepping on the moon." will get old after about the one millionth time.
(well assuming we don't have Bush III, in which case the above phrase may be in another language)
Look at every OS alternative to Windows that has failed in the past. The vast majority fail for not having enough software alternatives available to match what is available for windows. Linux has been around for quite a while now, but main stream software is still hard to come by.
Application installs in Linux are difficult, and often require additional software that must be downloaded in one of several cryptic ways prior to installing the application you want to use. None of it is as simple as a application install in Windows. Linux's usage model should be the automobile, but in actually they opt for the spaceshuttle.
The Mac OS is probably the directon Linux should be going in. Though I wish OS manufacturers could give us a way to have it both ways.
I also think the Linux community at large wouldn't want to beat Microsoft, they need something to be the counter culture to./rant off
Verizon will be releasing that patch next year. (snark)
Well they'll find SOMETHING. Just might be a different target than what was intended. I wonder how far off the target would be?
That's supposed to happen again in 2038. Because no one has done more than the patch they deployed back in 1999.
