Yes but Lindows has a firewall running which prevents the kinds of things you mention. It also functions quite well if you create a regular user. A lot of Lindows users are starting to relize this and are creating user accounts not all will of course. Do you run any Windows machines and if you do do you login with an account that has no admin abilities?

Not true on the Lindows forums I have told many users to use apt to get programs and I have not been banished I have also posted to tell others how to set Lindows up with seperate user accounts because I don't like running as root. My posts are still there I have told the Lindows president I don't agree with him on the running as root concept I still am allowed to post. I have changed my sources list and upgraded to Debian testing yet all Lindows only content still works. Lindows is not for everyone there target market is not the people posting here it is mom and dad who have no pcs and want to get online cheap. These people can't use apt or compile from source maybe someday but not on day one. I don't agree with everything Lindows does but they are not evil they are trying to bring Linux to the masses and make a profit aat the same time this is not bad it benefits us all by increasing the number of Linux users. This will help sway other corps into releasing Linux drivers and software.

I disagree Mandrake picks up my sound blaster live yet 98se and ME tell me it has a problem. OK then it must be a Microsoft problem but no W2K works fine with the card too, although W2K won't work with my network card that worked fine under NT 4. I install Linux and I'm done, I install any Microsoft product and I have to scour the web looking for drivers. If I had to pick which OS was ready for prime time well I'll let you guess and here's a hint the company doesn't ryme with Winblows.

I haven't seen a registry corruption in years (not since win95, actually). And the reason for that was me mucking around in regedit before I had an idea of what I was doing. Otherwise, smooth sailing all the way. In my mind, the registry is better than a pant load of .ini files. Everything's in one place, so you know that if you need to find something, you just have to fire up regedit (and the trees are generally setup pretty logically, though you can't fault Microsoft for idiot third-party developers).

I have seen registry corruption in every vesion of 95, 98 ,ME, and even W2K although I work at a bank as a technician so I do get to see the "supposedly smartest people do the dumbest things" I will agree the new versions aren't half as bad as 95 was but it still happens.

I have to agree if you take out this documentaion and I can't connect to the internet how am I supposed to fix the machine. Couldn't Debian just put out a call to the writers and say this is the last release that we will allow rewrite this document dor inclusion into version 3 or 4 or whetever is next. I think they might alienate too many people with this one.
