IMO they took it out of beta in order to release the 2.0 version. Otherwise it would be pretty weird to see a 2.0 version of something that never went 1.0
Man, look at the website you are on. Call a slashdotter nerd is the most reduntant thing you can do around here. We are all pround nerds.
As long as this is revolving into nerdiness calling and the like, brag about having guns is nerdy also...Or are you trying to say you actually use your guns on situations someone would use martial arts? You know that shooting poople down is illegal, right?
My fault! I read the 1gb part and took it as RAM. Sorry. I had a 128 mg xp machine. It runs, but if you install too much stuff on it you get roasted.
The 2 tips I can give is. Watch out for those nasty programs that runs on the tray. They are resource hogs. After that, check out those programs that get started and don't show up on the tray, like Office Find Fast, Adobe Reader Fast Start and the likes. Some of them are on the startup group at programs, but some of them don't. Programs like Spy Bot Search and Destroy can show you those.
Windows is a strange piece of software. It degrades with time. If you install and uninstall too much programs, it will end up becoming slow. I believe this is related to garbage at the registry... You just have to reinstall from time to time.
Market share is too small to qualify as serious contender. I would say linux became a contender and that's it. The serious part (more than 10% share, IMO) will have to way another year
I have to say you are wrong. I have a Semprom box, 512 RAM with windows XP and it runs perfectly. Absolutely no problem. I even play a couple of old games on it (far cry, HL1, return to castle wolfstein, etc). Nothing to complain at all. My setup run XP perfectly.
That being said, the box runs ubuntu too and it is way better than xp:-P
Second that. GP's knowledge isn't deep. At least in Zen. There is no contradiction in Zen. Absolutely none. Even if you don't get Zen's spirit, you should at least understand this. Nothing is as simple and complete as Zen.
Runescape is webstart, not applet. This kind of misconception is in the root of many problems regarding java. I worked on a large desktop application that used applet technology and it was an absolute nightmare. We eventually migrated to web start and things just started working smoothly.
You are right. I forgot about banking applets. I guess its the only area were Java applets can be considered mainstream. Does anyone knows other cases besides banking were applets are common?
GP is sorta right. Java is here to stay, but applets dispeared. There has been a 64-bits virtual machine for a couple of year. What didn't exist was the java plugin for browsers, which are only good to run those useless applets.
Nowadays, Java web apps uses Web Start technology, which are not browser plugins. They are desktop apps that take a descriptive text file from the net and use it to load web apps outside the browser.
The user will think your cleaning code is the malware and reformat the machine. Oh wait. It works!
Hey. I tried to follow your link and buy some stuff, but it seems out of order
It will find the man behind the botnet (the Joker probably) and beat the fuck out of him.

Why do nerds think karate is so cool?
Kung fu is not karate.
If you want to whine about something, please inform yourself better before you begin.
As you are on the subject. Try some really effective martial arts, like brazilian jiu-jitsu, before saying it doesn't work on the streets.

...a beowulf cluster of that. Oh, wait!

That's true only in russia.
print("Hello Word!")
Some people argue that this is a *new* religion and not a reform
Hey, that's LISP. Oh, wait. I mean that's Zen!

Are you sure those are not WebStart technology?
OMGP!
He can. Posted anonymously. Am I wrong?!

Not that I don't believe in you. But it would be nice if you provide nice links for us to play. Sorry. I mean, links to follow ;-)

Heretic. Burn!!
But he fits perfectly among the crowd.
With the added bonus that both works on 32 and 64 bits.
