  1. Re:Ack... on Germany Places Command & Conquer on Restricted List · · Score: 1

Should they ban Quake type games too now? ... What about strategy games where military action is a part of the game?

FYI all three Quake Games, (and numerous other FPS) are already banned in Germany. And if Westwood had not censored (robots instead of humans, green blood etc) C&C 1/2/3 they could have been banned too.

And they are not banned, but put on a restricted list so only adults are allowed to buy them and you are not allowed to advertise them.

what i had in mind wasn't sharing source or saving money but rather improved code as in more bugfixes, cause you can finally track down bugs and fix em, not just report how to exploit them.

  3. Re:A reason on What if Microsoft went Open Source? · · Score: 5, Insightful

of course they can't release the whole sourcecode for all of their applications, for the reasons you just mentioned. But even if only if they released the sourcecode to a tiny fraction of their it could benefit them. OpenOffice.org/StarOffice, Mozilla/Netscape, Mac OS X/Darwin are examples where the sourcecode has been released after code from other companies has been removed, and yet it was beneficial for all parties involved. And All of them are also sold with closed source extensions. So your reasoning is only partly valid.
And nobody says that you can't fill the holes in swiss sourcecode.

u idiot! Im a qw and im pretty happy about it! It still take a lot of coding knowledge to create cheats and via proxys u were able to cheat a lot already so this aint new! I am sure that some clever coders will find a way to make a better cheat protection maybe via a external proggie, next time dont give it such a short thought, im sure this helping the qw scene more than it damages it!
