I'm sure Ruby is better than Perl. But 1st I don't have time to learn another language which isn't "different" enough. And 2nd I don't know what to do with another language. Can't use it at work, because no one else knows Ruby. And can't use it for me and my friends and people I know. They would have to install Ruby and all the cool libraries for it.
FontPaths in XF86Config as in Font-Deuglyfication-HOWTO.
That's it. Don't know what they were doing. But I have to sort the FontPaths for the unscaled fonts to the end of the list. And now everything looks fine with Mozilla 0.9.2.
Funny: Arranging the FontPaths according to the Font-Deuglyfication-Howto leads to ugly fonts.
Yep. They changed font scaling... (for better or worse) Try the same fonts 1 or 2 points smaller, and they'll look exactly like they did before. I used to use size 16 for serif, now I use 15. For monospace, I went from 16 to 14. Try a couple and see which looks best for you...
OK. But how do I make all webdesigners on the web to use the font sizes which aren't ugly on my system?
I'm currently installing a new PC for a new co-worker (mkext2fs is running...). It will have Linux 2.0.18 and KDE 2.0.1. The co-worker claims not to know Linux but is interested to learn about it. So my boss decided to give him Linux.
BTW: I'm no sysadmin. I'm just responsible for my own tools. And Debian 2.2 is easy to install. Even without any CD-ROM. Just use your bandwidth to the Internet.:-)
It would be nice if the game developers would actually use a cross-platform engine to begin with,...
That's why I'd like to see a "Yes, it runs with Wine"-Logo or similar.
There are some programs which use Wine (like Corel's PhotoPaint). And many developers are bound to Windows (or think they are). Maybe this could get some fresh wind into cross plattform development.
I don't think many Windows developers would use AmigaOS to achieve this.:-)
I tried out mandrake 7.2 just after it was released. It required 2.5 Gb. That's a lot. I'have no idea what they include in their distribution to get to that number but it is almost certain I won't ever use 95 % of it.
I don't believe they are requiring 2.5 GiB.:-)
No one expects you to install _all_ the CDs. You have the coice, that's the difference.
Unix is the choice-OS. Most of the djihad discussions can be answered by the sentence "You have the choice!". Which window manager is the best? Which editor should be installed? Is KDE better than GNOME? How about CDE?
I use BSD as well, and this is why I love NetBSD and OpenBSD. They are very small, whenever I install it, I install just the standard (1 CD). If I then use I can install applications via the ports collection. Let's not let our Linux pride blind us. Happy Holidays.
What's the difference to a today's version of Debian and apt-get?
I've installed Debian 2.2 (potato) on two PCs lateley. One time with selecting some packets with dselect (yuck!) and the other PC with a predefined set of packets, which could be selected during the install process.
No bloat. And all the additional packets get installed via apt-get. Easy to use and fun on a fast connection.
I've read some articles about the strength of *BSD and it's port system. This is not intended to start a flame war or djihad. How close is Debian to BDS comparing apt-get and ports?
What we need is a "YES, it runs with Wine" sticker. Some software is hard to make work with wine. Mainly games, which are the only true reason to use Windows.

As long as I find alternatives I won't pay anything.

Mozilla 0.8 and sans serif font
Mozilla 0.9.2 serif font
Mozilla 0.9.2 sans serif font
Default fonts.
First the Linux-only problem with scaled images and no the ugly fonts. I think they don't want Linux users. :-(
OK. But how do I make all webdesigners on the web to use the font sizes which aren't ugly on my system?
I have really ugly fonts with Mozilla 0.9.2. They were OK with 0.8.
Debian 2.2, FontPaths in XF86Config as in Font-Deuglyfication-HOWTO.
No idea how to fix it.
I can't remember any "Buy German"-Campaign like
the "Buy American"-Campaigns in the US.

It makes no difference for Joe Average Linux User.
And think about the know-how they gain by shooting people in space. It's the first step. Maybe we could soon fly to moon for about EUR 10000.
And imagine a scientiest flying to the ISS in the business-class of such a tansporter instead of the regular space shuttle. :-)

Yeah. Surely offtopic talking about bugs and Microsoft, when the Topic is Bugtraq and Microsoft. :-/

No, I don't want to say they have other reasons than technical ones.
Main problem ist the library chaos. How many remaining glibc-2.0-systems are there? How many libc5?
And which version of X11 should be supported. Both?
Reinvent the wheel or use some existing toolkit. Which one?
Making it DOS-like or integrate it into the desktop. Which one?
Choice is good. And Choice is bad. Find your way.
It's a bit confusing these days with Mozilla/Gecko.
:-)
Beonex 0.6 was announced on Feshmeat
yesterday. But i was released just around
the release of Netscape 6 (first final).
Now we have Mozilla 0.6 and a first fix for
Netscape 6 a few days ago.
And don't forget Nautilus and Galeon!
I think I'm getting old. This is too much
for me.
